[fa:vxxx -- First Appears in Volume xxx.] [oa:vxxx -- Only appearance is in Volume xxx.] [la:vxxx -- Last Appears in Volume xxx. Normally, good guys continue to appear throughout the series, and minor bad guys don't last for more than one volume. The exceptions will get entry for la:vxxx. However, the major bad guy exception is Tao-pie Pie, who has shown up in the TV series as recently as the Winter of 1993.] Character List: Piccolo: AKA The Great Demon King Piccolo, or Devil Piccolo. A huge, shrivelled green monster with 2 antenna. Wants the Dragon Balls to make a certain wish, and the list of Tenkaichi-budoukai fighters so that he can kill them all off. Had been imprisoned by Kamesennin's old master, and released by Pilaf. [fa:v12] Tamborine: One of Piccolo's demon warriors. Is the one to kill Kiririn. [fa:v12] Cymbol: Another of Piccolo's warriors, sent out to get the Dragon Ball held by Yajirobee. [fa:v12] Yajirobee: Samurai. Long, shaggy hair, and wears a yukata (a simple top garment sort of like a robe) and sandals. A master swordsman with an appetite that rival's Gokuu's. [fa:v12] Mutaito-sama: Kamesennin's old master. Died while imprisoning Piccolo in the Denshi Jar several hundred years ago. [fa:v12] Piano: First appears in volume 12, but not named until later. Piccolo's right-hand demon. [fa:v12] Drum: The last of the warriors that Piccolo creates -- a big, fat monster that can easily defeat Tenshinhan. [fa:v13] Mister Popo: The little, fat black guy wearing a Turkish outfit. Is Kami-sama's sole servant, and is more powerful than anyone that Gokuu's fought before. [fa:v14] Ma Junior: The reincarnation of Piccolo as a younger demon. [fa:v14] Kami-sama: (Kami means "god," and that is the reading for the kanji on his tunic.) Occupant of Kyuden, the island floating high above Karin Tower. Most powerful character yet. [fa:v14] Radits: Saiya-jin (race of were-monkey warriors from a distant planet.) Gokuu's older brother. [oa:v17] Kakarot: Gokuu's Saiya-jin name. [fa:v17] Nappa: Radits' big Saiya-jin friend. Strong, bald, big, and with a mustache. [fa:v17] [la:v19] Vejiita: The strongest Saiya-jin. Very ruthless, cruel, and arrogant. Hates being weaker than any other creature. Smaller than Gokuu, with wild black hair and a receding hairline. Prince from the Saiya-jin Planet, Vejiita. [fa:v17] Kaiou-sama: "World King." Looks like a humanoid catfish. Lives on a little planet with a strong gravity well, at the end of the Snake Road, in heaven. [fa:v18] Enmadaiou-sama: "King of Hell." The huge gate keeper god that determines where the dead are to go in the after-life. [fa:v18] Bubbles: (Baburusu) Kaiou's pet monkey. Very strong and fast. [fa:v18] Fighting styles: Super Dodon-pa: A cannon blast that Tao-pie Pie uses against Tenshinhan. Stronger than the regular Dodon attack. Zanzou-ken: After-Image Attack. This is a technique that Ma Jr. uses, which is basically the same thing as One Pattern. Souki-Dan: Big inner-energy ball. Yamcha uses it against Shen. Me no 12: Twelve Eyes. Tenshin has the ability to create 3 exact clones of himself (actual creations, not just images.) Chou-Kamehame-ha: "Super" Kamehame-ha. Gokuu uses it for the first time, while facing Ma Junior in volume 16. Bukuujutsu: "No Air" This is name of the technique used when people fly around. (Used from volume 16 on up.) Makankousappou: Piccolo's screw blast. Very powerful, but requires some time to build up the energy, first. "Industrial light attack" (light as in illumination.) (Used in vol. 17) Other notes: Kamesennin originally said that it had taken him 50 years to master Kamehame-ha, but Gokuu picked it up right after seeing it used. There are 4 people in the world who are known to be able to use this attack -- Kamesennin, Jackie Chun, Son Gohan, and Gokuu. However, 4-5 years after meeting Kamesennin, two others have also picked it up, as does one more at the Tenkaichi-Budoukai. Denshi Jar: The container that had held Piccolo prisoner for several hundred years (Denshi Jar is the Japanese name for "rice cooker.") Vejiita: Name of the planet that the Saiya-jin come from. Same name as Prince Vejiita. Sentou-ryoku: Combat power. The Saiya-jin all wear little scanners over one eye. These scanners can measure the sentou-ryoku of whoever the user wants, and the distance to that desired person. (In volume 18, they are called Scouters.) Cybermen: Ugly little monsters that look like withered versions of Piccolo. They are created from special seeds, or pills, that are planted and watered. Very strong and fast, they can spew acid from their heads, and self-destruct in a powerful explosion. Namek: Name of Piccolo's home planet, which is also the location of the original Dragon Balls. Ma Junior is surprised that Vejiita knows about his planet. Original Dragon Balls: The set of Dragon Balls in the main story were created by Kami-sama. The originals are much more powerful, and will grant you three wishes, not just one. -- Curtis H. Hoffmann Aug. 15, 1993
