A new generation of artists is combining and redefining traditional art forms, creating new materials, performance practices and methods of artistic expression. The Strange Attractors IX Festival of Experimental Intermedia Art will bring to Metropolitan State University a collection of renowned artists in a celebration of new work and creativity. The festival will offer a flexible and interactive environment for artists to present and discuss their work to audiences who will have a unique opportunity to experience these works in diverse and creative ways. Concerts begin at 8 p.m.

Suggested donations - $8 general / $5 students and seniors.

The featured artists and groups include:

 

John O’Brien – The composer/trumpet player organizes an evening of improvised and composed works for his ensemble. 

Friday, November 1st at 8 p.m.

 

Chaotix  mind bending visuals, heavy music and spoken word that rams a fist right where you think it does.  Curated by spoken word artist Tou Saiko Lee with composer-guitarist Shane Miklas and Todd Douglas Cohn, beats and video production

Friday, November 8th at 8 p.m.

 

Thinmen – Metropolitan State student Doug Christianson leads the local band in a CD release party of new music and intermedia.

Saturday, November 9th at 8 p.m.  

 

Fred Ho (NYC) – The composer-performer and arts activist returns with urgent new music and a CD release party for “Stranger Than Fiction”, recorded last spring at Strange Attractors VIII; with laptop artist Steve Goldstein and oddball guitarist Davis Menas.

Friday, November 15th at 8 p.m.  

 

Wade Kolada The composer-improviser creates an evening of new music with his ensemble.

Friday, November 22nd at 8 p.m.

 

George Cartwright – The avant-jazz saxophonist and founder of the legendary band Curlew presents new compositions with a new ensemble and texts by Anne Elias.

Saturday, November 23rd at 8 p.m.

 

Doug Christianson and The Nobles eXperimental interMedia Group Drum Circle Capstone Project by Christianson is combined with final projects by students in the fall Experimental Music class.
