Chris and his girlfriend Connie were kind enough to drive us to Philadelphia for the day. Apparently it's not so safe by night, but by day it's a very pleasant place to spend some time. I can't for the life of me remember who the statue was of, I think it was Benjamin Franklin but I'm not sure. It doesn't really matter anyway as you can't see him, just the North American wildlife sculptures round the edge.
Philadelphia is dotted with some very impressive modern sculptures.
Philly is, of course, the old capital of the US, and we visited the historic sites where the treaty of Independence was signed, we also queued for an hour to see the Liberty Bell. If you ever go to Philadelphia, the Liberty Bell isn't really interesting enough to queue up for a long period of time, however Independence Hall is well worth the wait. |
