The Barn Basecamp
| Name: The Barn, Dunham Massey | ![]() |
| Location: Little Bollington, Cheshire | |
| This two storey converted barn stands in its own grounds near the
entrance to the deer park of the Dunham Massey estate.
The basecamp is quite spacious with all modern facilities including a fully fitted kitchen and excellent bathroom facilities. |

As well as a combined kitchen/dining area there is also a comfortable
lounge area with a wood burning stove, which is an ideal room in which to relax with the
other volunteers after a hard days work. Upstairs there are four dormitories with bunk beds which are very clean and comfortable. The toilet and shower rooms are very large and modern. |
| The barn is situated in the village of Little Bollington which is three
miles from Altrincham and ten miles south-west
of Manchester. Originally built in 1910 this basecamp is particularly popular with volunteers as it is only 100 metres from the local public house, The Swan with Two Nicks. |

About 50 metres behind the basecamp runs The Bridgwater
Canal and it is very pleasant to stroll along the towpath on a quite sunny evening.
At the front of barn is a grassed area with wooden seating where volunteers can just sit and relax after a hard days work, or they can play a few games if still feeling energetic. |
| As the basecamp is on the edge of
the Dunham Massey estate it is very worthwhile
trying to find the time to explore some of the 230 acres of parkland, or to visit the
splendid hall. The overall location of this basecamp makes it a very desirable place to stay. |

My overall impression is that this is an excellent basecamp. The layout of the barn seems to give it a very friendly atmosphere and it is certainly very clean and comfortable. |
