David Bryce Industrial Design
Biography
David Bryce graduated from Carleton University in 1986 with a Bachelor of Industrial Design (BID). Shortly thereafter, he was hired as a CAD designer/draftsman at Kinetics Furniture in Toronto. Reporting to James Hayward, David remained at Kinetics for three successful years, mainly using VersaCad on a PC platform.

While at Kinetics, David became familiar with the work of architect/designer Paolo Favaretto, and began to consider design possibilities abroad. In 1989, David was hired as a designer for Studio Favaretto in Padova, Italy, and began designing both residential and office furniture. Several of his designs are now in production, and one has been nominated for the prestigious Compasso d'oro (Gold Compass) design award. David remained at Studio Favaretto for three years, enjoying an excellent cultural and professional experience.

Always looking for new opportunities and responsibilities, David began working as a freelance designer in Italy in March 1992. He worked as a consultant for furniture design firms and established extensive contacts with both European and North American manufacturers.

David returned to Canada in December, 1997, and was hired by Miles Keller at Carbon Design in Toronto. David both worked in the Carbon studio and travelled with Mr. Keller to consult with clients. During this time, David designed an executive seating line for Leif Jacobsen, Inc., and soon after representatives of Carbon Design and Leif Jacobsen decided that David should take over the project as an independent consultant. David fulfilled his contract with Leif Jacobsen by designing and prototyping the line over the next year and a half. In addition to the executive seating line, he also designed and prototyped two soft seating lines, five occasional table lines, and one wood stacking chair.

Recent clients include: Urban Mode-home furniture and accessories retailer(platform bed); Creative Displayworks-P.O.P displays(custom-design executive office desk);ITIF-store fixtures for Ralph Lauren, the Gap, Keycorp Bank(value-added design of 99 branch wide, bank interior fixtures).

Today, David continues to work as an independent designer and consultant in the Toronto area. His latest project is a sofa design for the contract office furniture manufacturer, Canadian Atlas Furniture.
