The Tornado in Indianapolis -- Page 1
At about 2:30 on Friday afternoon, September 20, tornados and high winds came through Indianapolis.  At the time, Tiffanie and I were meeting in Cincinnati, and then driving to Indianapolis where we had planned to spend the weekend.  We were unaware of the storms until we got to Indianapolis about two hours after they had passed.

Traffic leading into the area where I live was jammed.  Reports on the radio mentioned damage to my neighborhood and surrounding intersections and shopping centers.  When we were finally able to get in, we were amazed to find that there was no damage to my condo.  But many other people were not so lucky.

That night, power, phone, and cable were out.  The police closed off the area at 10:00 pm to prevent people who didn't live there from entering.  The next morning, we helped clean up some of the area around the condo.  And then we went for a walk.

The pictures below begin with a view looking out my front door.  We walked for about a mile and a half through the neighborhood and the adjacent shopping center.  While there was a lot of damage, thankfully no one was killed.

Several downed trees cover a driveway and house.
These oak trees, broken in half, are in my next-door-neighbor's back yard.
The same covered driveway from a different angle. Many of the downed trees didn't break.  Rather, they were either pushed over or pulled up by their roots.
The day after the storm, police allowed traffic on the road leading to the neighborhood.  Traffic was heavy all day from people driving by to see the damage.  This photo also shows one of the downed power lines.
