My GGG-Grandfather
Joshua O'Daniel(s)
Joshua was born in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, the son of John O'Daniel and Catherine Andrews. He married Caroline Cooper of Tinicum Twp., Bucks County and they had several children in Pennsylvania before moving across the Delaware River to Lambertville, New Jersey.

During the Civil War, Joshua and his younger brother Theodore O'Daniel(s) both served as privates in Company A of the
3rd New Jersey Calvary Regiment. Joshua was discharged Oct. 29, 1864 from Carver U.S. Army General Hospital, Washington, DC because of disability. He received a pension.

Joshua was, as were several of his brothers, a brickmaker. Some of his sons would follow in his footsteps--including by GG-Grandfather
George O'Daniel.

Joshua's will was written on Nov. 4, 1897, the day before he died.

"I, Joshua O'Daniels of the City of Lambertville, County of Hunterdon and State of New Jersey make this my last will. I give, devise and bequeath all my estate and property real and personal to my wife and to my son William H. O'Daniel equally share and share alike. I appoint my son William H. O'Daniel Executor of this my will. In witness whereof I have signed, sealed and published and declared this instrument as my will at Lambertville on this Fourth day of November, 1897. Signed
X, his mark."

Inventory of his estate was as follows:

Joshua O'Daniel, his wife Caroline, and about two dozen O'Daniel siblings, children and cousins are buried in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Lambertville.

While spelling of the surname varies from O'Daniel(s) to simply Daniel(s) or even McDaniel, all the tombstones at Mt. Hope are consistent in using O'Daniels.
