BCRC/CRTF - ANALYSIS OF NATIONAL ARCHIVES MATERIAL

(CLICK HERE TO RETURN TO MAIN BCRC/CRTF PAGE)

The BCRC material in the National Archives allows analysis of the backgrounds of those registered.

Years of Birth are shown in the following chart.

The above chart includes all persons registered with the BCRC/CRTF in the "Old Refugees" section (pre-WW2), plus associated persons noted with them on the Numerical Case Index List. Note relatively low levels of persons born during the years of WW1, low levels of those born in the 1930's (young children may not have been taken when fleeing to Britain), and the level of births during WW2.

Place of origin in shown in the Numerical Case Index List by a code. Unfortunately this only appears for the first section of the list, for cases 1 to 3266. The chart below shows the origin of all Primary Case Subjects for these cases (not including sub-case subjects, e.g. wives, children, aged parents etc.).

Analysis of origin for the Primary Case Individuals (first for each case number, without any sub-case identifier) can be split into blocks of the Numerical Case Index List. The results show serious variations in the origins of those registering in different parts of the list as case numbers were assigned chronologically. A large group arriving of the same origin would dominate the relevant section of the list. Any other analysis of an incomplete sample of records from "random" blocks within the list (for example those Registration Card Files which are currently open) would therefore not be representative of the whole due to these variations. The charts below show these variations, and analysis in even smaller blocks would show increased variations within those units away from the overall averages. Please note that the size of blocks chosen here is completely arbitrary.

Further analysis from the Case Index List and Registration Card Files will produce more details on the background and fate of those registered.
