Philip

·        His name is fifth place in the three lists of the Apostles.

·        From the town of Bethsaida on Lake Genesareth.

·        Philip was a follower of John the Baptist.  He was among those surrounding John the Baptist when Jesus passed by and John the Baptist referred to Him as “the Lamb of God.”

·        On the day after Peter’s call, as they were about to set out for Galilee, Jesus met Philip and called him to the Apostolate with the words, “Follow Me.”  Philip obeyed the call and soon brought Bartholomew to become an Apostle.

·        Very little is known about Philip but he is thought to have been a naïve, somewhat shy, sober-minded man.  He was supposedly married and had several daughters.

·        According to some historians, Philip preached in Greece and Asia Minor.

·        He was crucified upside down at Hierapolis, Phrygia under Emperor Domitan.
