Bronze medals for Stephanie Horner and Tobias Oriwol at European swimming competition

CANET, France � Stephanie Horner of Beaconsfield, Que., and Tobias Oriwol of Pointe-Claire, Que., won bronze medals in their respective 200-metre individual medley races on Sunday to conclude the first stop on the Mare Nostrum swimming circuit.

In the women�s 200 IM, Hannah Miley of Britain won the gold medal two minutes and 14.57 seconds with American veteran Kaitlin Sandeno second in 2:16.01 while Horner, 18, was third in 2:17.72 for her first career international medal.

In the men�s 200 IM, Thiago Pereira of Brazil was the winner in 1:59.21 with Kris Gilchrist of Britain second in 2:05.65 and Oriwol third in 2:05.74.  Jonathan Aubry of Montreal also reached the final and was seventh in 2:09.46.

Other Canadian finalists were Rick Say of Victoria fifth in the men�s 200 freestyle, Horner seventh in the women�s 200 freestyle and Charles Francis of Montreal eighth in the men�s 200 backstroke.

Other Canadian results: Chanelle Charron Watson of Quebec City was ninth overall in the 400 freestyle and 13th in the 200 freestyle, Melanie Bouchard of Quebec City was 10th in the 200 backstroke and Victoria Poon of Montreal was 11th in the 50 freestyle,

For the men, Matt Rose of Victoria was ninth in the 50 freestyle, Mathieu Bois of Montreal 10th in the 100 breaststroke, Andrew Hurd of Toronto 11th in the 800 freestyle and Felix Renaud of Montreal 14th in the 50 backstroke.
