Medal bonanza for Canadian swimmers with a disability

BRNO, Czech Republic � Darda Geiger of London, Ont., Anne Polinario of Montreal and Valerie Grand�Maison of Montreal won their respective 100-metre backstroke races on Friday to open the Eurowaves 2007 competition for swimmers with a disability.

Grand� Maison, a quintuple gold medallist at the world championships last year,  took the victory in the S13 disability category and added a bronze in the 100 breaststroke.  Geiger and Polinario won in the S9 and 10 categories respectively.

Donovan Tildesley of Vancouver also posted two top-three finishes placing second in the 100 backstroke and third the 100 breaststroke in the S11 category, also for visually impaired.

Other Canadian second place finishers were Brad Sales of London, Ont., and Benoit Huot of Montreal in the men�s S9 and S10 100 backstrokes and Chelsey Gotell of Antigonish, N.S., in the women�s S13 100 backstroke.

Brian Hill of Montreal was third in the S13 100 backstroke and Gotell fourth in the 100 breaststroke.
