Former Prosecuting Attorney

A funeral Mass for Thomas W. shannon, former prosecuting

attorney for St. Louis, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Gabriel the

Archangel Catholic Church, 6303 Nottingham Avenue. Burial

will be in Resurrection Cemetery.

Mr. shannon, 74, died Monday of emphysema at St. Anthony's

Medical Center.

Mr. Shannon , of South St. Louis County, had lived part-time in

the Table Rock Lake area after his retirement as prosecuting

attorney Jan. 1, 1979

He was appointed an assistant prosecuting attorney in 1951. He

was named associate in 1962 and was elected prosecuting

attorney on the Democratic in 1966.

Mr. Shannon was popular with voters despite allegations in the

press of favoritism to Democratic political figures.

Mr. Shannon was the father of Mike Shannon, a sportscaster and

former third baseman for the Cardinals baseball team.
