• Opening of McMahon Stadium:
    McMahon Stadium was officially opened August 15, 1960, as the Calgary Stampeders hosted the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. The capacity crowd of 20,000 applauded with a standing ovation as the ceremonial opening kickoff featured Stampeder's President George McMahon kicking the football held by his brother Frank.

  • The Facilities:
    McMahon Stadium has a seating capacity of 36,000 permanent seats with an additional 10,000 floor seats with approved surface protection cover. There is a disabled viewing area which can accommodate 100 wheelchairs. McMahon Stadium also has private suite seating capacity of 500. Some features of our facility include five dressing rooms, two meeting rooms, and an Olympic Volunteer Centre with a 1,000 seat banquet room. There are also 2,400 on site parking stalls. McMahon is easy to access as it is one block from the Light Rail Transit station, and is directly accessible by Bus routes. It is 25 minutes from the international airport and is within walking distance of various motels and restaurants.
