Mandy
Mandy was a stage hand, hired help. She worked for one of the biggest groups in the UK. She never really got close to the boys. She put up the sets for the concerts then she went home and slept. Her life couldn’t have been more boring. She had long blonde hair, and brown eyes. She wasn’t seeing anyone. Not since that asshole Cliff dumped her. That was another story though. She loved what she did. Her father hated it. She left home at sixteen and hadn’t looked back. She’d been working for Westlife since the beginning. She thought Shane was stuck up, Nicky was sweet if not naive, Bryan was the nicest, Kian was an asshole like Cliff, but Mark, oh Mark. She had the biggest crush on Mark. She lived and died for the moment that he sang. Once he bumped in to her and knocked the hammer and nails from her arms. He actually bent over and picked them up for her while she stood there opening and closing her mouth like a fish. He handed her back the hammer, said sorry with a smile, and walked off. That was the only time she had actually talked to anyone in Westlife. Other then work she didn’t really talk to anyone. She went home to her cat, Midi, and the tv. Mark didn’t even know her name.
Today she was helping out set up for the concert that Westlife was doing to raise money for children. There was going to be pyrotechnics and flying. She worked long and hard for this show. It was a huge let down, and a big scare when the stage caught fire and the boys had to be rushed away. Mark looked at her and smiled as he ran. Well looked through her was more like it. Who was she kidding he didn’t know she was alive.
What'cha doing tonight
I wish I could be a fly on your wall
Are you really alone
Am I still in your dreams
Why can't I bring you into my life
What would it take to make you see that I'm alive
"Well that show was a bomb, literally." Zara told Mandy. "I don’t think I’ve ever seen Bryan move so fast."
Mandy chuckled, "Zara! You’re horrid!"
"Aye. I know." Zara and Mandy had become fast friends after the fire. It was funny how disaster brought people together. Zara had a major crush on Bryan. The girls gossiped about the boys while they worked on the stage. "Did you see his arse move? I’ve never seen such a fine arse, I swear!"
"Well I prefer Kian’s" A voice said. Mandy saw Zara turn and go pale. "So you think I’ve got a fine arse? Well thanks, I’m Bryan."
"Mandy." Mandy said as she shook his hand. Zara was turning slowly red.
"Aye! Mandy. They’ve written a song about you. It’s our next single. Pleasure to meet you. And you are?" He turned to Zara.
"She is speechless. Her name is Zara." Mandy said with a smirk. "How are the babies Bryan?"
"Adorable, growing up fast. Thanks for the ego boost, Zara. It was a pleasure to meet you both." Bryan mocked bowed and walked off humming. Zara turned from red to purple when Bryan was joined by Kian and he turned and pointed at her and said to Kian. "See that girl?"
"Aye?" Kian replied.
"Her name is Zara and she thinks I’ve got a fine bum." Bryan sang out.
"Oh really? Is she seeing a therapist?" They walked out of the room and Zara wanted to die.
"I can’t believe Bryan knows I like his bum." Zara whined. "And now Kian knows I like Bryan’s bum. Soon all of Westlife will know. Then I’ll have to find another job, and I just got this one."
"Calm down, my Irish friend. He’s married, he’s famous, he gets that all the time." Mandy said while patting Zara’s back.
"Did anything like this ever happen to you before you left America?" Zara asked while they went back to working.
"Nope I can’t say that it had. Although I left when I was 16."
"I’ve lived in Ireland my whole life. It’s so boring." Zara complained.
"At least Bryan knows you fancy him. Mark will never know that I fancy him." Mandy sighed.
"Well talk about his fine arse and maybe he’ll hear you." Zara laughed.
"I might as well be invisible." Mandy hammered and Zara rolled her eyes.
"If I was invisible
Then I could just watch you in your room
If I was invisible
I'd make you mine tonight
If hearts were unbreakable
Then I could just tell you where I stand
I would be the smartest man
If I was invisible
Wait ... I already am
"Hey Mark!" Bryan yelped as he walked back to the dressing room.
"Aye?" Mark said distractedly.
"You know the stage hands? Zara and Mandy?" Bryan was prancing around the room.
"Aye?"
"Zara thinks I have a nice bum." Bryan sang out.
"Mandy is nice." Mark replied.
"You know her?" Bryan asked.
"I know of her."
"Oh. Well Zara thinks I have a fine bum."
"Aye, Bryan, you’ve told me." Mark sighed.
"Wanna go find them and tease Zara?" Bryan asked while an evil smile spread over his face.
"Sure what the hell." Mark wanted to see Mandy again. Zara was the first one to see Mark and Bryan walking towards them.
"Shite!" Zara exclaimed. "Don’t look, but Mark is coming towards us."
"Ello!" Bryan said. He turned around and pointed to his ass. "Still think it’s fine?"
"Oh, actually I was watching Kian as you two walked away, and his maybe just a little bit finer." Zara teased.
"Oh damn there goes your one fan, Bryan. Well, that plan obviously backfired." Mark laughed.
"What plan?" Zara asked while watching Mandy, who was still hammering and acting like no one was around.
"Oh, the plan that Bryan had to come down here and tease you." Mark joked.
"Aye. But you beat me to it, Zara." Bryan said.
"GOD DAMMIT!" Mandy yelled. Mark jumped about nine feet in the air.
"What? What?" Mark asked.
"My thumb. I smacked it. It’s bleeding. Ugh I hate blood. It makes me..." Mandy said as she passed out.
"Oh my god. Mandy! Mandy!" Zara was trying to revive her.
"Huh?" Mandy slurred. "Oh god I passed out." She moved her thumb a bit. "It’s broken."
"It’s broken? We’ll take you to the hospital." Mark said. "Let us grab hats and glasses and get the car"
"You don’t have to--" Mandy started, but Bryan interrupted.
"Yes, we do. We aren’t doing anything. Be right back." They walked off.
"Oh...MY...GOD." Zara yelped. "They are taking us to the hospital!! Wooo."
"Oh woo. Yeah I made an ass out of my self in front of Mark. So happy about that." Mandy said as she sat up.
"No, you didn’t, only me and you know why you bashed your finger." Zara said.
"And why is that?" Mandy said.
"Well, you have the hots for Mark and you were trying to not act like your in love with hi....Hey guys!" The boys were back with hats, dark glasses, Kian, and Nicky.
“How’s me bum, Zara?" Nicky teased and turned around.
Zara turned a shade of red, "I’ll never live that down will I?"
"Nope, and I filled Kian in about his bum." Bryan exclaimed happily. Kian just stood there looking unamused.
"You didn’t." Zara said.
"He did." Kian said.
"He acts unamused but I seem to remember him saying you had a nice arse yerself not, what five minutes ago? Right Mark?" Nicky asked Mark in a mock serious tone.
"I think it was more like three minutes ago." Mark winked at Mandy.
"Yeah, that’s about right." Nicky nodded.
"Oh fook off, you two!" Kian exclaimed. "Are we going to get this poor girl to a hospital or is she going to bleed to death first?"
Well, her thumb was broken. So, a splint and some tape later the boys took them out for lunch.
"Wow these pain killers are great!" Mandy said as she shoveled food into her mouth.
"You eat like Mark." Bryan said.
"Yeah, and you eat like an elephant." Mark teased.
"I better not eat this." Zara put the fruit back on her plate. "I’ve got to watch me girlish figure you know?"
"I’ve been watching it all afternoon and it seems great to me." Kian said quietly.
"Kian! Was that a complement?" Zara asked in a shocked tone. "Quick Mark take notes it maybe the first and last complement from Kian!"
"Shuddup!" Kian laughed.
Nicky started to sing, "Kian and Kara sitting in a tree k-i-s-s-i-n OW!" Nicky yelped. Kian and Zara both hit him at the same time.
"Well, that was great you guys, but we have to get back to work." Mandy started, but Mark interrupted her.
"Oh no, you most certainty will not. We have a surprise for you." Mark looked at Bryan, and the boys started to sing.
"I'm standing on the edge of time
Walked away when love was mine
Caught up in a world of uphill climbing
The tears are in my eyes
And nothing is rhyming, oh Mandy
Well you came and you smashed your finger.
And we took you to the hospital oh Mandy"
"Funny guys!" Mandy rolled her eyes.
"We have another surprise." Bryan said, "Tickets to tonight’s concert. Front row, center so you can watch our arses!" The two girls freaked out. They calmed down when they realized the guys were watching them.
"Sorry, but you just told us we’re gonna see our favorite band live front row."
"Westlife is your favorite band?" Nicky asked. "Great we’ve picked up a couple of stalkers."
"It’s ok, Shane is my favorite member." Mandy said.
"He is not you said..." Zara started but Mandy kicked her. "Said that you didn’t like any of them."
"Well I like their music." Mandy said.
"Um, hello, we are still sitting here." Kian said.
"Sorry guys. You’re just too clean cut for me." Mandy said looking at Mark.
"Damn!" Nicky said. "I had my eye on you."
"You’re married." Mandy said.
"Oh, yes, that’s right. No loss for me." Nicky laughed. Mark just sat there. He really had started to like Mandy. It didn’t help later when during the concert they sang Mandy and dedicated it to "a special girl in the crowd.". He sang it to her from on stage. But she didn’t like him. He kept saying that in his head.
Saw your face in the crowd
I call out your name
You don't hear a sound
I keep tracing your steps
Each move that you make
Wish I could read what goes through your mind
Wish you could touch me with the colors of your life
"I can’t believe they did that for us." Zara gushed. "Kian is so cute."
"I thought you liked Bryan?" Mandy asked. She couldn’t get the song Mandy out of her head, or the way Mark looked while singing it; it was crazy but she was falling in love with him.
"He’s married. Kian is not." Zara stated simply. "Besides, I’m not the one covering my feelings at the lunch table, Mandy."
"Well, it’s not like I have a chance with him. So why embarrass myself?"
"I don’t know about that." Zara said.
"I do. Want to come to my house for dinner?" Mandy changed the subject.
"I’d love it!" Zara and Mandy prepared hamburgers and corn on the cob and ate out on Mandy’s deck.
"He is cute though," Mandy said with a mouth full of food.
"Who?" Zara asked as she fought with the corn on the cob.
"Mark."
"Oh, I don’t know. He’s too husky for me." Zara stated as the corn fell on the ground and Mandy’s dog Zoe attacked it. "So much for corn on the cob."
"Husky? Am I still speaking to Zara, the one who liked Bryan’s bum? Bryan is bigger then Mark." Mandy said.
"Yeah that’s why I like Kian now." Zara leaned back and burped.
"So lady like." A voice stated with laughter in it. Mandy and Zara jumped.
"What the...How...why?" Mandy said.
"Ah, well, the show is over and we do have free time." It was Bryan. "So sorry to hear that you no longer fancy my bum. But Mark is bigger."
"How long have you been there?" Zara asked.
"Long enough." Kian said stepping out from the bushes that enclosed Mandy’s deck. "Wanna go for a walk?"
"You want to go for a walk with lil old me? A stage hand? Why I never!" Zara smirk and stood. "I’d love to."
They left, and Bryan and Nicky sat down. Bryan started eating what was left of Zara’s food. "So my dear, how is your hand?"
"It’s alright, I suppose." Mandy was trying to figure out how to ask about Mark but Bryan answered her question.
"You’ve still not met Shane have you?"
"No. Where’s he at?"
"With Mark. Gillian and Shane are double dating with him." Mandy wanted to cry. But she smiled and looked at Nicky. "Too bad you’re married."
If I was invisible
Then I could just watch you in your room
If I was invisible
I'd make you mine tonight
If hearts were unbreakable
Then I could just tell you where I stand
I would be the smartest man
If I was invisible
Wait ... I already am
I'd make you mine tonight (Invisible)
I'd make you mine tonight
Zara never came back that night. Bryan and Nicky left after Bryan ate her out of house and home. Zara called the next day and earned her new nickname. "Whore.”
"I can’t believe you slept with him." Mandy said in an exasperated tone. "How on earth did you get so lucky?
"God loves me? Okay, I gotta let you go, Kian is calling my cell." They said bye and Mandy left for work. She wasn’t scheduled but she was hoping to see Mark. It was hard to work with one hand; sShe couldn’t hammer she couldn’t use a power tool. She ended up carrying stuff back and forth. Zara wandered in walking funny.
"Why the hell are you walking like that?" Mandy asked.
"Sore."
"So not gonna ask." Mandy stated and told Zara she’d be right back. She had to carry a box of nails to Jeff, another one of the crew members. She was humming Mandy and not watching where she was going and walked into a wall, or so she thought. But it wasn’t a wall, it was Mark. The nails went flying out of her hands, and Mark bent over to pick up them up.
"I remember doing this before." Mark said with a smile.
"How was your date?" Mandy said bitterly.
"Fine." Mark said sadly.
"Only just fine?" Mandy asked.
"Yeah we dropped her off early and went home to bed. I want someone else. She doesn’t even know it, though." Mark said as he looked at Mandy.
"I know that feeling. Guys are so dumb sometimes.." ‘I WANT YOU!’ Mandy’s heart screamed. She wanted to reach out for him. She didn’t know he was going through the same thing.
I reach out
But you don't even see me
(No, you don't, No, you don't, No, you don't)
Even when I scream out
Baby, you don't hear me
You don't hear me
I am nothing without you
Just a shadow passing through
(Invisble, Invisible, Invisible. . .)
"Did you hear that Zara got lucky last night?" Mandy was groping for something to talk about. "Mark?" He wasn’t paying attention.
"Huh?"
"Kian and Zara hooked up." Mandy told Mark.
"Ah, figures. I hope she’s careful. He’s got a reputation."
"So do you. Or so I’ve heard." Mandy said.
"Yeah, well, that’s mostly press. I’m really the shy one. I have to wait for girls to make the move." Mark said.
"Ah." Mandy wanted to shake him.
"So if you wanted to kiss me, I’d be okay with it." Mark said quietly.
"What makes you think I’d want to..." Mark pulled Mandy to him and his lips met hers. She heard bells, whistles, shouts and clapping. The latter turned out to be Nicky and Bryan watching them.
"Took you guys long enough." Bryan said.
"Yeah I was beginning to think I was invisible." Mandy said, and she kissed Mark again.
If I was invisible
Then I could just watch you in your room
If I was invisible I'd make you mine tonight
If hearts were unbreakable
Then I could just tell you where I stand
