CHAPTER 6
Nikita was very very upset.
Her son had to be shifted for a few days to Anne's house because the press had been told his father was home for a while. She was seething and was bursting to tell the world that the boy was her son for crying out loud!
Anne gathered Shiva's things as Nikita cooed over her baby one last time before he was separated from her for ten days.
Mrs. Summers gently told her as she finished collecting the items "Think of it as alone time fore a while."
She sighed and handed her baby over. "I can't bear to be away from him Mrs. Summers"
"I know, child. But we have to do this I'm afraid. Don't spend too much time thinking about him." Anne's eyes glittered suddenly. "Why don't you think about Hayden instead?"
Nikita forced a smile as she said "I'll do whatever I can to take my mind off it."
Anne smiled again. "Good." Shiva looked at his mother in surprise as she gave him a goodbye kiss before Anne disappeared with him into the car.
The car took off and she could just see the top of Shiva's curly hair as the car drove on. She remained in the driveway until she couldn't see the limo anymore. A tear slipped down her face.
Nikita sighed and wondered how she would spend the evening.
*
What is the matter with me? he thought as he when through his umpteenth book of the day. And he couldn't remember a thing that was written inside it.
He was at his favorite book shop and he just could not seem to find the right book.
Maybe because my mind is on Nikita. It was always on Nikita. God...what is the matter with me???
He was in shock. He had been looking at the cover of 'A Tale of Two Cities.' for the past five minutes not even vaguely registering the title!
Hmmm...she'd have read this one. he thought to himself as he looked at the next and suddenly snapped out of it. What do I mean she has probably read this one? Am I buying her a present?
A little voice inside his head murmured Yes...it may be a good idea to buy something for your lover.
So he went to the Fiction section and drew out a thick book called 'Assassin'. It was a love story between a girl who is meant to assassinate a prince but ends up falling in love with the man. It seemed like a pretty sweet book. He went to the cashier and said "I need this gift wrapped. In your nicest paper please. It's for someone very special."
As the girl took it away he thought of something "Uh, wait...can I inscribe it?"
"Yeah...here's a pen."
He took the black pen and stood thinking for a moment before it came to him. And seriously took his breath away. How many stupid mistakes was he going to make in one day?
He was in love with her. If she wanted to trample his heart, it would stay trampled now! Instead, he looked down at the white page with the title on it. Sighing, he wrote
"Nikita
I'm too scared to say it face to face. I love you.
Yours forever,
Hayden"
And he prayed to god that she felt the same way about him.
*
He arrived at her place just as the sun was setting. He was hot, sweaty and tired from the day's shoot and the AC of his car had conked off. He grabbed the extra key she had given him and taking the carefully wrapped present in his hand, he walked into her house.
Knowing her butler and Au Pair were not in today and neither was Shiva, he pulled off his shirt and threw it on the floor, cursing when he dropped the present along with it. Bending down, his back aching, he slowly picked it up.
"Hello, handsome..."
He looked up when he heard her voice. "Where are you, Nikita?" he asked when he couldn't see her.
And that was when she appeared from behind him. And watched with sheer female delight when his eyes went dark as he saw what she was wearing.
White lace lingerie was infallible with a dusky skin tone...and she knew it add to that a set of white high heeled strappy shoes adorned her feet. Opening the band that held her hair, she let it fall in a ripple down her back.
"I've been waiting for you."
His mouth fell open and his eyes were now full of lust.
"You're trying to kill me." he murmured dropping her present again and walking towards her.
"Just seduce you." She whispered as he drew her into his arms, lowering his mouth to kiss her neck.
Needless to say, he couldn't give her the gift that evening or night for that matter.
*
"Good morning, love." he muttered as he nuzzled her hair. She smiled up at him, in a lazy way. They were lying amongst the black satin sheets of her bed and it was long past morning... It was a great way of spending a lazy summer day. Suddenly he remembered the gift he had meant to give her.
So he got out of bed, ignoring her protests and walked downstairs to where he had dropped the present.
Picking it up, he felt his heart go to his mouth as he walked up the stairs again, two at a time.
She was sitting with her head in her hands and her long hair framing her face as she said "Hayden, that is the best way to catch a cold."
"I'll risk it."
"Oof... you are such a man!" she grumbled as she grabbed his boxers and threw them at him, her own body covered in her sheets.
He looked at the boxers and then back at her. Then at the boxers and at her again. That was when he grinned. He chucked the boxers away and continued to just stare at her.
"What?" she asked feeling slightly uncomfortable at the stare.
"It's just that you're looking so beautiful today."
"I'm not beautiful. What's the matter with you today anyhow?" she said quietly, looking at him like he was mad.
"You're pouting now."
"I am not!" she said defiantly as he cupped her chin and planted a kiss on her lips before she had any time to react. He laughed.
"Fine, don't wear them. But I'm warning you, it's very rude to point." she muttered, noting that not all of him was as half asleep as the rest of him.
"Here." and he gave her the present. She got out of the sheets, walked towards him and took it from him gently kissing his mouth. "You didn't have to get me anything."
"It's a book I thought you might like. Open it before I go crazy."
She burst out laughing. "You know what's inside! Why would you go crazy?"
"Uh...just open it, darling."
She opened the gift and in automation that shocked him went to the first page. He saw her expression change into one of absolute pleasure and her eyes fill with tears.
"Do you...do you mean it?" she asked, her voice going into a whisper. His eyes smiled whilst he gently wiped away her tears.
"With all my heart."
"And I love you with all my heart as well...you're the sweetest, kindest, silliest, funniest, most confusing man I have met in my life."
He raised his eyebrows even as his heart sang.
"I'm not sure if all of those descriptions were flattering."
"Uh...No Shit!" she said laughing as she jumped out of his reach and into the sheets again. "Hayden! No hanky panky, its way too late, we've got to go to work soon!"
Her eyes were blurring already as he pinned her down, both of them rolling into the sheets again, shouting at each other and laughing at the same time.
"Fine you can just stay there while I use you."
Later, when she staggered to the bathroom, she thought she wouldn't mind being used by him all that often.
*
"Good Morning! Look we've got some bad news for us and good news for the actors" said Anna Kristoff. "You guys are going to get an unscheduled vacation because of technical difficulties for the next few days."
The cheer from the five actors and actresses was so loud that it seemed like they were a dozen and not just five.
Shane and Orlando were soon jumping off the walls in glee while Jessica screamed her head off. They had been joined by Johnny Depp, Ashton Kutcher, oddly enough, Justin Timberlake and Seann William Scott.
Hollywood was on holiday!
Hayden took Nikita aside.
"Listen...um, I know this is sudden and we may even consider it too soon...we've been dating only for a few weeks but uh...could you possibly consider coming with me to meet my parents?"
The last few words were said when one of those eerie silences had taken place that some people liked to say was angels flying over them.
"I wouldn't mind meeting your parents...in fact I would love to meet your family." she said, now knowing the silence was intentional.
Orlando was shaking his head and Shane said slowly "I told you so. I KNEW he would come up with a statement like that sooner or later. God, the guy just cannot play the field!"
Nikita raised her eyebrows, "I'm very comfortable with that actually."
Shane wiped an imaginary tear from his eye.
"She made a joke! Our Nikita made a joke! A moment for Hollywood history!"
Hayden put an arm around her shoulders laughing.
"Hey hey hey! You'd better not be dissing out my babe! I'll have you know, she's hilarious!"
"That was so not a compliment!" gloated Seann.
"Hayden, creek, no paddle." muttered Nikita, causing everyone to go into splits.
Hayden pouted.
"Behave, Christensen or you're not getting any tonight!" hooted Shane.
Of course, Shane was wrong as usual.
