Chasing After You

09. At The Wrong Moment

Tonight, I'm gonna make it up to you

Tonight, I'm gonna make love to you

Tonight, you're gonna know how much I miss you

Viggo and Liberty pulled into the parking lot of the main set as the crew and cast were just getting a break for lunch. She saw Dom heading into a trailer, his Merry wig bobbing merrily with each step, and she called out to him so he’d wait for her. He waved and started walking towards her.

Liberty opened up the door and turned back to Viggo, “Thanks, Viggo, for everything.”

He smiled at her, “No problem.”

Liberty jumped out of the SUV and made her way over to Dom; Viggo pulled out of the parking lot to head for home.

“Hey there,” Dom smiled, hugging her quickly.

“Am I too early?” She asked, looking around apprehensively.

“No, no,” Dom assured her, “Just on time.”

Liberty nodded, glancing around the set, “It’s pretty quiet compared to what I’ve been told about this place.”

Dom laughed, “Don’t ever listen to anything Billy tells you.” He motioned towards the trailer he’d previously been about to enter, “Want to go and hang out in my trailer for a bit before the caterers get here with lunch?”

“Sure,” she agreed and they went, hand in hand, into the trailer. It was a regulation trailer, like the rest of the trailers set up all around it. It had a small couch in one corner facing a large entertainment center that took up most of the room, and a miniscule hall leading towards a teeny kitchen and bathroom. “It’s, er, lovely,” Liberty said, biting her bottom lip. They were standing in between the entertainment center and couch facing each other. Dom was still holding loosely to her hand.

“Want something to drink?” He asked, waving a hand in a random direction, his gray eyes turned to hers.

Liberty shook her head slowly and moistened her lips. It had been a long time since she’d been really alone with Dom, and she couldn’t help but want to make the most of it.

Dom inched towards her and suddenly she began giggling uncontrollably. “What?” he asked, sounding hurt and exasperated.

“Nothing,” she assured him, covering her giggling mouth with her hand, “It’s just that, well…” she tugged gently on his Merry wig and realization dawned on him, “It’s hard to be ‘in the mood’ when you’re dressed as a hundred year old Hobbit of the Shire.”

“Really?” Dom asked, shrugging and looking helplessly at his outfit. He didn’t have hobbit feet on at the moment, so he kicked off his black flip-flops, “Raya’s turned on by it.”

“Orlando isn’t a hobbit,” Liberty pointed out, “The blond wig does things for him that the hobbit gear most definitely doesn’t do for you.”

“I’m eternally saddened by this,” Dom replied, sounding forlorn. He rubbed her arms up and down, “But that doesn’t mean I’m going to let you off the hook that easily.”

“Well, what happens if the wig comes off in the heat of passion?” Liberty questioned, plucking at a curl from the wig which was falling into Dom’s eyes.

Dom raised an eyebrow, “The makeup people will have to deal with it. I can’t hold back forever, you know. I’m sure they’d understand.”

Liberty laughed, and then sobered when she realized he wasn’t kidding. He was staring at her, his eyes heavy with…something Liberty couldn’t comprehend. “Dom…” she swallowed, “What time do you have to be back on set?”

“Two hours,” he answered thickly, taking a step closer to her. She smiled at him and wrapped her arms around his neck. “Plenty of time…for hobbit frolicking.”

She was about to laugh loudly, but his mouth covered hers in an urgent kiss and she felt herself inhale deeply before pressing herself against him.

As the kiss deepened and became more and more passionate, Liberty became less aware of her surroundings and very, very aware of Dom’s body pressed up against her, his hands twirling through her long hair and rubbing her back.

In the very back of her mind, something registered and she pulled away, panting heavily.

“What?” Dom asked, his lips red, his chest rising and falling quickly; his Merry wig was messed up where she’d been running her hands through it.

“Door,” Liberty muttered, trying desperately to catch her breath. “Somebody’s at the door.” Sure enough, there was another angry knock.

Dom sighed heavily and yelled, “Come in,” in a less than friendly manner. Liberty couldn’t help but smile at him. She’d been very caught up in what was going on, and didn’t want it to stop any more than he did, but she knew the person at the door wouldn’t just leave.

Billy entered the trailer, looking at them curiously, “I heard a lot of heavy breathing while I was waiting out there. Are you doing aerobics?”

“Em, yes,” Liberty replied, fixing her hair and smudging off the lipstick which was no nowhere near her lips.

Dom grinned at her and then glared at Billy, “What’s up?”

“Lunch. It’s here. Thought you’d be hungry.” Billy raised an eyebrow, “But obviously you two are indisposed. I’ll leave you be.” He paused at the door, “Oh, and, Dom, Anaka is looking for you, I’ll detain her for a while.”

“Anaka’s here?” Liberty asked, the second the trailer door was closed behind Billy.

“She’s an extra. An elf.” Dom sighed heavily, “Too bad, really. But, obviously not my decision.” He walked back over to her, running a finger gently across her jaw line. “Where were we?”

Liberty shrugged and leaned closer to kiss him on the lips. She had intended it to be quick and not so passionate as the last one they’d shared, but he pulled her to him and stumbled backward onto the couch so that he was laying flat down on his back with her on top of him.

The next time they were interrupted was about fifteen minutes later. Liberty jumped off from him, shuddering from being cold for some reason; then she realized her shirt had gone missing. Dom, who had apparently taken it from her, handed it over from where it’d been positioned (on the floor) and went to answer the door.

He didn’t open it until she had the shirt securely over her head and had given him thumbs up. Her grin vanished when she saw Anaka standing on the threshold in full elf apparel.

“Em, hello,” Dom said, sighing and running a hand through his hair.

She smiled up at him and walked into the trailer, flicking a snooty look in Liberty’s direction. She plopped down onto the couch, grabbed the nearest magazine and flipped idly through it while keeping her ears trained on their conversation.

“I’ve been looking all over for you, Dominic. I can see now that you were busy…entertaining.” She laughed icily and placed a hand on his forearm. He pulled away, glancing at Liberty, who was pretending to be occupied.

“Liberty and I were working on some scenes,” Dom explained weakly.

“Really,” Anaka raised an eyebrow, “Well, I was just hoping for a second opinion.”

Dom knew he’d never be left alone if he didn’t care of this right now, so he followed her to the door, “An opinion on what?”

Anaka fluttered her eyelashes, playing with her long blond elf hair, “Are these elf ears flattering?”

“Yes,” Dom answered quickly. Liberty’s head shot up; she looked perplexed. “Elf ears are flattering on everyone.”

Anaka nodded and smiled sweetly. “I have a dreadful headache. You don’t think you could just pop me home, do you?”

“No, I’m a little busy. I’m sure Billy would be happy to.”

“Billy doesn’t drive as well as you,” she purred, running a finger along his arm. “Also, I think he’s busy eating.”

Dom nodded, “I can’t, Anaka, but I can give Orlando a ring. He’ll take you.”

“He and Raya are out for a romantic lunch,” Anaka said, pouting her heavily painted lips, “Could you please just swing me by? It’ll only take a few moments. Then you can get back to Libetts.”

Liberty rolled her eyes behind the magazine, but didn’t say anything.

“It’s Liberty,” he cast a glance at her, looking sorry, “And yes, I’ll take you.” He shrugged helplessly; Liberty ignored him.

“Libs,” Dom said, crouching down to be eyelevel with her. She looked slowly up at him, awaiting an explanation. “I’ll be right back and we can continue what we were doing, okay?”

“I don’t think so, Dom” Liberty replied, her mouth set in a frown, “I’m going to go and find Elijah.”

“Elijah?” Dom repeated, feeling sick suddenly, “What do you mean ‘find Elijah’?”

Liberty stood up, “You‘re not a stupid guy, Dom, but right now you‘re certainly doing a job pretending to be one.” She sighed heavily, flipping her hair over her shoulder before stalking past Anaka and out the door.

“BLOODY HELL!” Dom hollered, his head in his hands.

“Looks like trouble in paradise,” Anaka commented, tapping her foot on the floor; Dom glared angrily at her.

*

“ELIJAH!” Liberty hollered, pounding on his trailer’s door with both fists. “ELIIIIIIIIIIIIJAH!”

Elijah opened the door, nearly knocking Liberty over backwards; his hair was matted down on one side and he was holding headphones in his hands. It looked like he’d been trying to have a nap. “Liberty. What the hell.”

“Dom’s a bastard,” Liberty muttered, crossing her arms across her chest and pouting.

Elijah sighed and pulled her up into the trailer, “What’d he do?” he asked as she sat down on one side of the couch and he took the other.

Liberty told him, in quick jumbled succession, just exactly what had been happening; Elijah listened aptly, randomly making sympathetic sounds.

“I’m sorry, Lib,” Elijah said when she’d finished, snaking his arm around her shoulders and allowing her to fall into him. “Men are jerks sometimes. It’s how we are. He probably figured this was the only way to get rid of her.”

“He could have just told her no and MADE her allow Billy to take her home!” Liberty rested her head back in exasperation. “If he loves me like he says, he wouldn’t be doing this. So OBVIOUSLY he was only SAYING that and he didn’t really MEAN it…”

“And you’re upset about him not really meaning it?”

“Well, of course I am!”

“I thought you didn’t know how you felt about him?”

“I do know,” Liberty replied, her voice more quiet, “I’m in love with the jerk.” Elijah kept quiet, just staring at her with his expression mixed shock and sadness. “I talked to Viggo and I didn’t think I was in love with him…but then when we were making out, I realized that I couldn’t picture myself with anybody else, ever. And there’s hardly ever a time when I don’t think about him. I’m scared, Elijah, but I know what I feel.”

Elijah swallowed hard and took a deep breath, “You need to tell him before he goes and makes a mistake.”

“Makes a mistake?” Liberty asked sharply. “What do you mean?”

Elijah shrugged, “If you aren’t honest with him, he won’t know if you’re serious about him…and he might think that he can just go and have…er…relations with someone else.”

“I hope when you say ‘have relations with someone else’ you mean Billy.”

“Yeah,” Elijah said quietly, “I hope so too.”

“What would you do if you were me?” Liberty asked, her voice shaking slightly.

“Me? I’d run after him yelling at the top of my lungs that I was in love with him.”

“I can’t.”

“Why not?”

“I don’t wanna get hurt anymore.”
