The twins are 82 month old.The CalTrain commuter train going from San Francisco and Gilroy along the SF Peninsula reopened its weekend service after 2 years hiatus. They used the past two years to upgrade their tracks to make their express "baby bullet train" possible. Their so called bullet trains are nothing like those in Japan. These bullet trains travel at the same speed as other trains, they just skip many stops in between to provide the express service. As a promotion gimmick, they would provide free rides for two weekends. Daddy wanted to take advantage of the good deal to have an excursion to San Francisco.
The train was packed with people. We couldn't find a seat. A kind gentleman got up and yielded his seat to the twins. The trip lasted 80 minutes. We arrived at the SF train terminal at around a quarter to two. We walked over to the SBC baseball park. There was a protest going on, the police blocked off the park from two blocks away. We had to cancel our visit to the park. On the other hand, when the police isolated the protesters from the public, the protest lost its intended function.
When the police ruined our plan, we took the taxi to Chinatown. We had lunch and then strolled around the stores. Mommy bought two backpacks for the twins. They anticipated the books will be heavier in second grade and they wanted a school bag with wheels. We bought some other things too. We took a taxi when the twins complained they didn't want to walk any farther. We boarded the train half an hour before departure. We walked from car to car to find a seat. We were lucky to get the last 3 seats at the last car. The twins shared a seat.
We had dinner near the train station before we drove home. The twins practiced some piano before going to bed at 10pm.

The twins went to school as usual. This was the last week of school before summer break. The twins must have started to miss school already. After dinner, they hid in their bedroom to play "school". They filled their new school bags we purchased yesterday with books. They also played teacher and student and worked on some math problems. The other plumeria cutting from Hawaii finally started to sprout again after it stopped growing a month ago. I pulled it out from the pot, washed it and added the rooting agent again last week. The hormone caused it to sprout again. The first cutting then sprouted successfully has grown quite a lot in a month's time. It now has more than seven blades of leaves with the largest at eight inches long. According to my readings, it would take another two years for the plumeria plant to bear flowers.
At bedtime, Jasmine liked to tell a story instead of listening to one. She retold a different version of the Frog Prince we read last night. The beginning was the same but the ending was quite different. She had great memory for the story line that she read elsewhere in a different book. The only problem was that she prefix each sentence with "and then".
It was then Joanne's turn to tell a story. She told a story about a rabbit who did not know he was a rabbit. He learned that only when the fox told him so before trying to eat him. The story was quite disorganized and it was filled with a lot of "and then" and "Oh! I forgot."
I asked Jasmine if she loved daddy. She replied "I love mommy better." I thought a simple yes would suffice.

The twins went to school as usual. They went to art class after school. Mommy said they drew very nice water color pictures. The paintings stayed at the art studio until it was dried, so daddy don't have the privilege to see them.A celestial event took place today, Venus passed over the Sun. It is called the Transit of Venus. It is a phenomenon that happens only once in 120 years or so. I asked the twins how old they would be when that happens again. They said they would be 127 years old and daddy would be in heaven.
Recently daddy bought a set of CDs titled 110 Silly Songs. The set consists of 4 music CD and a book of lyrics. The twins enjoyed singing along the songs whenever they were in daddy's car. Many were familiar songs that they sang in preschool and kindergarten. They used to memorize the words when teachers taught them the songs. For the first time, they could hold the song book and sang along. They liked it a lot. The CDs and book are produced by Madacy Entertainment group in Canada and it does not come with an ISBN number.
Daddy liked one of the song that was quite educational and silly. It is a song that based on the names of some states in America. The song goes as follows:
What did Delaware? What did Dela wear, boys. What did Dela wear? (Delaware) I ask you now as a personal friend. What did Dela wear? She wore her new jersey, boys. She wore her new jersey. (New Jersey) I tell you now as a personal friend. She wore her new jersey. What did Ida hoe, boys. What did Ida hoe? (Idaho) I ask you now as a personal friend. What did Ida hoe? She hoed her Mary land, boys. She hoed her Mary land. (Maryland) I tell you now as a personal friend. She hoed her Mary land.(the song goes on in the same pattern with different set of questions and answers.)Q: What did Io weigh? (Iowa) A: She weighed a washing ton. (Washington) Q: How did Wiscon sin? (Wisconsin) A: She stole a new brass key. (Nebraska) Q: What did Tennes see? (Tennessee) A: She saw what Arkan saw. (Arkansa) Q: How did Flora die? (Florida) A: She died in misery. (Missouri) Q: Where has Ore gone? (Oregon) A: She's gone to Okla home. (Oklahoma) Q: Why did Cali phone ya? (California) A: She phoned to say "How are ya?" (Hawaii) Q: What did Missis sip? A: She sipped a mini soda (Minnisota) Q: What did Dela wear?

The twins went to school as usual. The twins' classes have an "end of school year" picnic at a nearby park. The parents were invited to join the picnic too. Mommy, Jill, and Debbie went there too. The kids were occupied with their own activities, such as rushing to the playground, rolling around on the lawn etc. The teachers were just sitting around with nothing to do. The moms were bored too. They left after the kids had their lunch. The twins later said that when they returned to school, the teacher let them watch TV. Though they still go to school for the last few days, there is actually no school for them. The twins went to piano and abacus class after school. The teapot that the twins made in Annette's birthday party were ready for pick up. The teapots turned out pretty good after the glaze was fired. Jasmine's was purplish pink and Joanne's was light blue.
Jasmine had a pink right eye. Joanne said she noticed that in piano class. Daddy tried to put some eye drops into Jasmine eye. She squeezed her eyes so tight that nothing got in. Daddy asked Joanne to demonstrate. Joanne got her eye drops in less than 15 seconds on both eyes. That didn't change Jasmine's mind. Daddy sought mommy's help and she was able to sooth her eye with some eye drops. The twins somehow just refuse to listen to daddy. :-(

The twins are 2500 days old today. They went to school as usual. After school, mommy took them to McDonald's. The twins talked about buying a kid's value for days now. They wanted the "Neo-pets toys. The rest of the day is quite normal ... abacus, practice piano etc.For bed time story, we finished the second half of Hansel and Gretel. When daddy asked them what they did today, Jasmine reported everything in a machine gun manner. Daddy replied, "Oh! It was just like a regular day." Jasmine had a strong reaction and said, "We went to McDonald's and got the Neo Pets, didn't you listen?" Well, daddy wasn't paying full attention.
Jasmine's pink eye was about the same as yesterday. Some mucus came out at the corner of her eye, that indicate some kind of infection. Joanne told her that eye poop poop was not good. Mommy continued to put eye drops into Jasmine's eye in an attempt to lubricate it and flush out whatever was in it.
Friday, Jun 11, 2004 (6y+10m+5d)
The twins went to school for the morning. It was last day of school. The school ends early at 12:20pm today. At 1pm, they went to Joanne's classmate Tiffany's birthday party at Bamboola. Originally only Joanne was invited. Mommy was worrying about where to spend time with Jasmine while Joanne was in the party. Joanne asked Tiffany few days ago if she would invite Jasmine also. She did.
Jasmine asked daddy to check her eye. All the redness was out. She had recovered.

We went to a pancake house for brunch. The restaurant was full except the patio. Since it was a nice sunny day, we sat in the patio facing the street. We had 30 minutes for the meal before the next event. While we were waiting for our meals, we watched the passing traffic. We saw four Toyota Prius in less than 30 minutes. When we picked up our car, there was a classic Prius parked next to us. Later on the highway, we saw another one.We went to Rachel's piano recital. She has learned piano for 10 months through private lesson. She played a pretty long piece for her recital. Her piece was 4 to 5 times longer than what the twins played for their recital. She did very well.
The following musical pieces were performed by Rachel's class, in increasing order of student's ability. They were students of Tatyana Neyman.
Minuet L. Mozart Song without words L. Kohler Allegretto C. Gurlitt Little Waltz C. Gurlitt Arioso Alfred's Library Bake Me a Pie Alfred's Library Hatikva Israel national Anthem March in C E. Mozart Polonez M. Oginsky Maple Leaf Rag S. Joplin We then went to the ball park to see the trophy presenting ceremony for Nicholas' baseball league. His team didn't not win the top places, yet each player received a trophy for their relative place. We returned to their home to help them assemble a new basketball board for Nicholas. Nicholas' daddy returned from Taiwan on a business trip. He spent more time in Taiwan and around the world than staying in the US. We went out to the mall shopping together. The kids wanted to buy a gift for Father Day coming next week. We bumped into mommy's cousin Winnie from San Francisco. Samantha was with her father elsewhere in the mall, so the twins didn't see their cousin. The twins benefited from the big semi-annual sales at the Disney's store and Nordstrom. When they went into the shoe department, they were like kids in a candy store. They searched through the clearance shelves hunting for the styles they liked. After they found what they liked, they sought mommy and daddy's help in finding the size for them. Joanne was able to find her size for a pair of black sandals. Jasmine failed to find her size for a white shoes. Joanne offered to share the shoes with Jasmine.
Nicholas' father suffered from jet lag so we parted our ways before dinner time. We had dinner at a restaurant in the mall before we returned home.
Sunday, Jun 13, 2004 (6y+10m+7d)
The twins woke up early. They took care of their own breakfast (bread & butter) while daddy and mommy slept in. The twins all dressed up in the beautiful skirt we bought for them yesterday. Jasmine wore Joanne's new black sandals around the house all morning. They understood mommy's house rules very well. They were allowed to wear the shoe in the house only if they were brand new. Once the shoes went outdoors, they are not allowed into the house. Joanne wanted her shoes back when we went out to lunch with grandma Chui. After lunch, we returned to the neighborhood we used to live in. The twins said they recognized the house we lived in almost 3 years ago. Daddy also showed them the house daddy lived in for 10 years before marrying mommy. We then went to the Japanese Friendship Garden in San Jose. The twins barely remembered the place though we took them there when they were still sitting in stroller. Jasmine went to the restroom before leaving the restaurant. Joanne didn't. In the park, mommy had to find a restroom for Joanne that put mommy in a bad mood. Grandma Chui, Jasmine and daddy had a leisurely stroll around the garden. Mommy didn't say a word for the rest of the afternoon. It turned out that mommy had a headache due to the hot sun. The twins did their abacus exercise in front of mommy bed. That was the only way that the twins would concentrate on their work while mommy could take a nap at the same time. The twins took a nap when they were tired of their homework.
They slept until 8:30pm in the evening. After dinner, they returned to their abacus exercise. Jasmine finished her work early and practiced some piano. Joanne goofed off again, she were only half done a few hours after Jasmine finished. Mommy was mad at her and gave her two choices. She could hurry up and finish her work before going to bed. Or she could stop and she stay on the poolside when Jasmine swim with Benjamin the next day. She finished her work at 1am before going to bed. She paid for her procrastination.
The twins and daddy liked another silly song from the CD, it goes as
The Limerick Song (Chorus) Aye-aye-aye-aye. In China they never grow chilly So sing me another verse That's worse than the first verse Make sure that it's foolish and silly A canner exceedingly canny One morning remarked to his granny "A canner can can anything that he can But a canner can't can a can, can he? (Repeat Chorus) A tutor who tooted the flute Tried to tutor two tooters to toot Said the two to the tutor "Is it tougher to toot Or to tutor two tooters to toot?" (Repeat Chorus) A certain young fellow named Beebee Wished to marry a lady named Phoebe "But," he said. "I must see What the minister's fee be Before Phoebe be Phoebe Beebee" (Repeat Chorus)

The twins are on summer break for a week before summer school starts again. They followed mommy to Costco shopping and had lunch there. In the afternoon, they went to Benjamin's home for a swim. It was a hot day. The swim was very welcome. After the swim, they came home to take a shower. Then they rode their bikes back to Benjamin's home. Joanne rode on the motorcycle. They came back before dinner time.
Tuesday, Jun 15, 2004 (6y+10m+9d)
It was another hot day. Mommy took the twins to the shopping mall to cool off.
Wednesday, Jun 16, 2004 (6y+10m+10d)
The twins went to abacus and piano class in the afternoon. We had dinner with Nicholas' family at a sushi boat restaurant. After dinner, we walked to Michelle's home couple of miles away. The twins took their scooters. The walk was more than 15 minutes one way. On the return trip, Jasmine wanted to run instead and daddy had to ride her scooter.
Daddy downloaded a paper model Prius from the Internet. We started constructing the paper model car after dinner. We weren't able to finish it before bedtime.
Thursday, Jun 17, 2004 (6y+10m+11d)
The twins stayed home all day. They did abacus exercise and practiced piano. When daddy came home, each of them presented daddy a a picture of a vase with flowers. We finished the paper model Prius. The model has a lot of 3-D details including a pair of rear view mirrors and bumpers that stick out realistically. The finishing touch required some patience and dexterity challenge. The twins retired first and daddy finished the job.
The twins took over daddy sleeping spot. They put daddy's pillow in Jasmine bed. Daddy sleep in Jasmine's bed for the night. Mommy complained in the morning that Jasmine kicked her all night long.
Friday, Jun 18, 2004 (6y+10m+12d)
Mommy and the twins joined Benjamin and his mother for lunch. They initially planned a larger group, but two families cancelled because Nicholas' mom needed to babysit a friend's kid and Christopher's mom didn't feel well in the morning. After lunch, they went to visit the campus for their summer school. Then they came home to do some craft work and create some window stickers. After they sent Benjamin home, Nicholas and Patricia came to our house for dinner. The kids played some badminton in the backyard before the guests returned home. Joanne fell one of her tooth. Mommy saved it for her. Joanne put the tooth in her tooth treasure box and under her pillow.Mommy wouldn't let the twins sleep in her bed again. Instead the twins invited daddy to sleep in their room. The twins squeezed into Joanne's bed and they put daddy's pillow in Jasmine bed again.
Saturday, Jun 19, 2004 (6y+10m+13d)
The twins were happy to wake up with daddy in their room. Joanne was disappointed when she found that the tooth fairy didn't come. Daddy guessed that when the tooth fairy found two twins in Joanne's bed, she was confused so she didn't leave the money. The twins played some badminton in the backyard in the morning. We went to see Shrek 2 in the afternoon. There were less than 30 people in the whole theater. Since the movie was released a month ago, it was not too bad. After the movie, I asked the twins separately what was their favorite scene. They both picked the scene where Puss pretended to be adorable and then attacked the guards. I guess kids find tricking people very funny. Daddy liked the lying Pinocchio rescue plus the added scene after the credit of the movie.
They played some badminton again before dinner. Daddy and mommy watched the movie Big Fish on DVD. The twins watched for the N-th time the "My Scene" DVD that came with their dolls.
Sunday, Jun 20, 2004 (6y+10m+14d)
The twins woke up early and played on their own. Daddy and mommy slept in until the twins came in with their Father's day cards. We went to Santan Row for lunch. After lunch, we went to Aunt Tina place. Great grandma, grandpa, grandma Ling were there already when we arrived. The twins hid in their cousin Natalie's room to watch DVD. They hid in the computer room surfing the Internet after they finished the movie. We left after dinner. The twins took a nap before we arrived home. Daddy recovered the twins' school work from the trash. Daddy asked Joanne to show me her work. The twins took showers before going to bed.
Monday, Jun 21, 2004 (6y+10m+15d)
A new page of aerospace history was written when a private corporation successfully sent a manned spacecraft into space. Look like the twins may be able to fly into space as tourists. The twins went back to summer school after a week long break. The summer classes start at 8:30 in the morning, half an hour earlier than their regular school hours. Jasmine said she did not like the school because she didn't get to play in the playground. I thought the summer school had no recess because it had a short school day. Jasmine said she missed recess because she didn't finish her snack time on time. Mommy paid for the twins brunch and snack, but Jasmine said the teacher ran out of food and she only got milk.
They went to art class in the afternoon. They brought back the artwork from two weeks ago. Mommy bought them a portfolio to store their work.
They finished their homework early. Mommy let them play to their heart's content.
We sent them to bed early because they went to school early. At bedtime reading, we started on the Aztecs people. The twins kept interrupting with other topics. Obviously they were not too interested about history. Joanne stopped daddy in the middle of a sentence and asked, "Do you know why I always forget things?" She continued, "Because my brain is full!" I asked her why her brain was full. She said because she went to school everyday. I told her it was because she spent her time at build-a-bear dot com everyday. We cancelled the bedtime reading because the twins were not paying attention.
Tuesday, Jun 22, 2004 (6y+10m+16d)
The twins went to summer school as usual. Only a selected group of students were invited to summer school. The students who spoke Mandarin at home were excused from summer school. Our twins spoke English at home though we spoke to them in Cantonese. Anyway they needed their summer school to learn more Mandarin. In the afternoon, they went to the art & craft class again. The teacher would be busy next week, so she wanted to do a makeup class today instead. They did painting yesterday. They did sewing today. They were taught how to use needle thread to sew together some potpourri bags.
At bedtime, we read about the Aztecs people as ancient American civilization.
Wednesday, Jun 23, 2004 (6y+10m+17d)
The twins went to summer school as usual. It was a regular day.The news said it would be a nice day to watch the Bootids meteors tonight. The scientists found that this meteor shower displayed a spectacular show 6 years ago. They believe the earth orbit arrives around the same area every 6 years, so they predict it would be spectacular again this year. Daddy went to the backyard staring at the constellation of Bootes for 15 minutes, not even a single meteor was spotted.
Thursday, Jun 24, 2004 (6y+10m+18d)
The twins went to summer school as usual. It was a regular day.
Friday, Jun 25, 2004 (6y+10m+19d)
The twins went to summer school as usual. They went shopping with mommy after school. They shopped for a birthday gift for a birthday party tomorrow. In the evening, daddy asked Jasmine why she listened to mommy always but didn't listen to daddy. I asked her if she loved daddy as much as she loved mommy. She said not because she didn't come out from daddy's tummy. I was speechless, how could I ever compete with that?
At bedtime, we read the story of Jack and the beanstalk. The end of the story that Jack and his mother lived happily ever after. I asked the twins if it was a good story. They said yes. Then I asked them what do they think of Jack when he took the giant's gold. He took his hen that lays golden eggs and his magical harp that sings. Then after all that he killed the giant. All of a sudden, the twins realized that Jack was a bad person. The worst part of the story was that Jack lived happily ever after what he did.
Saturday, Jun 26, 2004 (6y+10m+20d)
We went to aunt Jun's house warming party in the afternoon. We were there from 2pm to 5pm. We then went from Walnut Creek to South San Jose to Justin's 2 year old birthday party. It was actually Alan and Wendy's house warming party because not many of us visited their new home since they moved in a year ago. Justin's 6 years old sister Valerie was a good host. She and her cousin Tiffany pulled the twins into her play room as soon as we arrived. We arrived at around 6pm. BBQ was served at around 7pm. There were tons of food available through out the party. Birthday cake was cut at around 10pm. We enjoyed Cantonese style red lentil soup as dessert before we left the party after 11pm. Most families with children had left by then. The party was just started for those who had no children. We arrived home around midnight. The twins went to bed after a quick wash of their butts and feet.
Sunday, Jun 27, 2004 (6y+10m+21d)
We let the twins slept as much as they wanted due to yesterday's activities. They got up after 10am. After brunch, they did some abacus exercise. We went out to the park in the afternoon while mommy stayed home. Joanne brought the motorcycle, Jasmine brought a bike and daddy brought the rollorblades. Jasmine complained that she didn't get to ride the motorcycle much. Joanne said Jasmine could have the motorcycle today if she would give something in exchange. Daddy spoiled her extortion scheme by telling Jasmine that she owned her the motorcycle too. She had the right to ride it without paying Joanne a fee. The twins spent a lot of time in the playground and little time exercising. When we came home, mommy already had dinner planned. We went out to dinner with Nicholas and Annette's family. After dinner, we went to Annette's house to see their brand new SONY big screen HD-ready TV. It is amazing how sharp modern TV are even when watching regular low resolution TV broadcast. The TV uses electronics to double the lines and pixels on the screen when the signal lacks the details.
We were home after 9:30pm. The twins took a shower and then went to bed without bedtime story tonight.
Monday, Jun 28, 2004 (6y+10m+22d)
The twins went to summer school as usual. There was no homework from school. Mommy asked them to do abacus exercise. But the twins didn't do much. Mommy was not too happy about that.At bedtime, Jasmine wanted to read bedtime story herself. She picked My Pony for tonight's story. Joanne wanted to that too, but needed to take her turn tomorrow.
Tuesday, Jun 29, 2004 (6y+10m+23d)
The twins went to summer school as usual. They stayed home after school to catch up on their abacus and music homework. It was Joanne's turn to do bedtime reading. She picked a book about dogs. She picked the chapter about puppy. Because it is not a children book, some of the vocabulary are quite difficult. She managed to pronounce some of those words slowly. Daddy helped occasionally, but she did most by herself.
Wednesday, Jun 30, 2004 (6y+10m+24d)
The twins went to summer school as usual. The had abacus and piano class in the afternoon.Jasmine told mommy that she didn't want to sleep next to Joanne because Joanne snore and had bad breath. Their beds are put side by side. One option was to stack them up as bunk bed. The other way was to put the bed on opposite walls in the room. And the last resort was to let them have their own room. Mommy worried bunk bed would be dangerous to the kid on top. The separate room option was to move one bed to a west facing room which get very hot in the afternoon. Mommy wanted to try the split bed approach first. Daddy's gout on the left big toe came back since yesterday. The arthritis was too painful to bear just sitting down, not to mention rearranging furniture. Mommy planned to seek Debbie's help tomorrow.
Mommy ordered the twins to clean up their mess before letting them go to bed. Daddy read "The Knee-high man" for bedtime story.
Thursday, Jul 1, 2004 (6y+10m+25d)
The twins went to summer school as usual. Mommy abandoned her plan to rearrange the furniture with Debbie's help. She wanted to do it after daddy recovered from his gouty ailment. Daddy continues to suffer from a swollen foot and a gouty toe joint. When daddy came home from work, Benjamin was playing with the twins. Ben's mother had to wait for a contractor to fix something in the house. The twins said Nicholas' family was here earlier in the afternoon too. Ben had dinner with us before his mom picked him up after 7pm.
Joanne read half of a book titled "Easter Carol". It was almost the same story as "Christmas carol", but different characters and time of year.
Friday, Jul 2, 2004 (6y+10m+26d)
The twins went to summer school as usual. Mommy took them to shopping after school looking for Fourth of July salesDaddy's returned home early from work when the gout problem worsened after lunch. Daddy was home before the kids returned home. Mommy told the twins that they would get a surprise when they arrived home. They were not very surprised to see daddy at home because they saw daddy's car on the driveway as they came home.
Daddy stayed in bed most afternoon. There was no bedtime story tonight.
Saturday, Jul 3, 2004 (6y+10m+27d)
The twins got up early to play on their own. Daddy stayed in bed till the afternoon due to the gouty foot. Mommy got up to serve them breakfast and returned to the bed for awhile. They went to lunch with mommy's cousin Willie's family. They later went to Hing's BBQ party in later afternoon. Daddy stayed home.
Sunday, Jul 4, 2004 (6y+10m+28d)
It was the 228th birthday of the United States. Mommy took the twins to join Nicholas' family for a day of activities. They watched the movie Two Brothers after lunch. They returned home with a bag of clothes from The Gap. I asked Joanne if she liked the movie, she said no.Daddy's gouty foot was feeling better after dinner, so we went out to see fireworks. The fireworks were launched from the field of a high school. When we arrived there, the neighborhood was blocked off by police. We looped around and found a parking lot adjacent to the school. Mommy recognized it was Annette's daddy's office. We opened the moon roof and the twins sat on top of the roof. Before the show started, we saw Annette's family coming into the same parking lot. We gave up our car top viewing position and joined Annette's family. They also came with Isabella's family. We found a spot and setup all the chairs and stuffs. When the fireworks started we found that our views were blocked by a tree. We all hurried to another spot, but the three families were divided during the scurry. The fireworks lasted about 20 minutes. Joanne wanted to leave because she said her arms were sore by covering her ears for too long. By the time we walked back to the car, the show was just over. When we got home, Jasmine already fell asleep in the car. Joanne pretended to be asleep. She didn't responded to mommy when mommy talked to her. But when daddy checked on her, she giggled.
Monday, Jul 5, 2004 (6y+10m+29d)
It was still a holiday for daddy and the twins. Mommy complained that she didn't have a holiday this weekend because of daddy's gouty foot.We went out to lunch with grandma Chui. We came home and stayed home the rest of the day.
