The twins were 8 year and 7 month old. The twins went to school as usual. Christopher's mom picked up the twins after school. They had an afternoon snack in a restaurant.Daddy received mommy phone call at around 4:30pm. She was at the airport in Taiwan waiting at the gate to board the flight home. When daddy picked up the twins after work, we were invited to stay for dinner. The kids had already finished all their homework before daddy arrived. They were allowed to played on the Nintendo before dinner. We watched some TV after dinner before going home at around 8:30pm. The twins took showers and went to bed.

The twins went to school as usual. We left home a little early because the twins were all ready with nothing to do. Jasmine was disappointed again when she saw Cyrus walking towards the classroom when we pulled into the parking space. She said we would beat Cyrus to the classroom if we had left a few minutes earlier. After dropping off the twins, daddy went to the airport directly. In the middle of a rush hour traffic jam, daddy received a phone call from mommy. Her flight arrived early and she was all ready to be picked up by 8:30am. She could have been earlier if she hadn't wasted some time looking for a payphone that accept coins, it is a rare beast nowadays. When mommy arrived home around 10am, she went straight to bed to adjust for the jet lag. Daddy went to work. Mommy got up at around 1 pm and took a shower before picking up the twins at school. The twins were excited to see mommy. When they got home, Joanne gave mommy a big welcome back hug. Jasmine ran to the bathroom and when she came out, she didn't do anything. Mommy was rather disappointed.
Mommy caught up with more than a hundred of email message. The twins did their homework and practiced piano. Daddy picked up some takeout dinner after work because mommy didn't want to cook on her first day home.

The twins went to school as usual. It was mommy's turn to take the twins to school after her week long vacation. The twins had their music class in the afternoon. After class, all the parents gathered for a meeting regarding this year's recital. The parents needed to chip in to pay for the venue's rent. Including the required insurance for the recital hall, each kid has to pay $28 to participate in the recital. For our family, we had to pay $56 for the twins to spend 4 minutes on stage. It was not only an expensive performance to watch, it would also an expensive performance to give.
The twins continued their homework after dinner. They were sent to bed at 10pm.

The twins went to school as usual. In the afternoon, they had their piano lesson. Her piano teacher asked them about their assignments. The twins said they misplaced the assignment sheets, so they had not practiced. The teacher commented that if they didn't practice, they wouldn't get their stickers as awards. The twins responded that they didn't care about the stickers. Mommy was very upset by the twins' reply. On the way home, mommy gave them a long lecture about their bad attitude. The stickers and awards were just an incentive for the student to do better. The award itself was not important, but the "doing better" part was the key. Being indifferent about their own learning was an unacceptable attitude. When the twins got home, they didn't say a word. They took a shower and started on their homework without mommy ordering them to do so.

It had been very cold in the past few days. According to the forecast, the snow level might reach the sea level today. The mountains around the valley had a rare snow cap. The twins went to school as usual. The twins were invited Sonya's birthday party starting at 5:30pm. They had games and a joggler for entertainment. They had pizza for dinner. Mommy joined daddy for dinner after dropping the kids off at the party. When daddy and mommy returned to pick them up, all the kids gathered around the TV to watch the "High School Musical" TV movie on Disney Channel. The movie was two hour long, the last two hours of the party were not very eventful. We started to clean up after 10pm. We were out of there at around 10:30pm.
Saturday, Mar 11, 2006 (8y+7m+5d)
The twins got up early and played in their own room. After a late breakfast, mommy sent the twins to Shannon's birthday party. Shannon's party was a day long event starting at 1pm until the late evening. Actually, the twins were invited to stay over in a slumber party afterwards. But mommy declined the invitation because we believed they were still too young to stay overnight away from their parents. They started with a visit to Shannon's girl scout troop, they visited some pet animals. When they returned to Shannon's home, they also had a goodie shopping spree. Instead of giving out the birthday goodies, Shannon's mom gave up some fake money. The kids is to buy their goodies with their fake money. They have games scheduled all day long. They had pizza for dinner. They ended the party with a movie on the DVD.Shannon only invited two more girls other than the twins. One of the girls would stay for the slumber party. Due to the small size of the party, it was very intimate interaction among them. The twins liked the format so much that they asked mommy if they could also give a small birthday party this year.
After daddy and mommy dropped of the kids at 1pm, we had the opportunity to spend the day without the kids. We drove around in Los Gatos where we seldom visit even though it was a few miles away from where we lived. We thought about watching a movie, but we ended up shopping for a garage door opener at Sears. We called Jenny and Albert out to dinner. Their daughter was out of town in college. What was better than the parents from the two empty nests to have dinner together? It was quite different between the two empty nests, because ours only lasted one day? Jenny and Albert just got a 2006 Prius this afternoon. They had been waiting in line for a few months. They were busy reading the owner manual, and they already loved the car. When we fetched our Prius after dinner, we got to compare the 2004 and 2006 Prius in the parking lot side by side. We left the restaurant after 9pm and we went to Shannon's home to pick up the twins. They were not done with their movie yet, so we stayed for a while to chat with Shannon's parents. When we left the party, they started setting up a tent inside the living room for the slumber party.
The twins requested that they want to have a slumber party in daddy and mommy's room. They set up their sleeping bags and blankets at the foot of our bed.

We stayed home most of the day. Daddy spent the afternoon, replacing the garage door opener in the garage. We had been having problems with the garage door for months. The twins said they were impressed with the new opener which opened the garage door very quickly. The twins stayed inside to practice piano. They also spent two hours with mommy putting together a 300 piece jigsaw puzzle.Evon's family invited us to a nice dinner. Since there were limited spaces for the table, we decided to go to the dinner without the twins. We dropped off the twins at Benjamin's home at around 7pm. Ben's mom said he had been bored all day, and he was excited to get to play with the twins. They had pizza for dinner. The twins had pizza for dinner three days in a row.
Our dinner took a little longer than expected. It was 10:30pm when we picked up the twins from Ben's home. They were still playing when we got there. I hoped we didn't upset the kid's schedule too much because they would still need to go to school the next morning. Since the twins already took a shower in the afternoon, they could go the bed after brushing their teeth.

The twins went to school as usual. Mommy took the BMW in for a smog check and it failed. She took the car to the dealer to find out the problem. She got a rental car from the dealer. Mommy took the twins to piano class in the afternoon. Her MDX failed to start again due to a weak battery after she listened to the radio while waiting for the twins for an hour. Actually the main reason was because she had not driven the car since she returned from Taiwan. Ms. Shwu's husband helped her jump start the car. Daddy recharged the battery overnight and everything got back to normal.
Thursday, Mar 16, 2006 (8y+7m+10d)
The twins went to school as usual. Mommy got a 100°F fever in the morning. She said she stayed out in the cold while the car was jump-started yesterday. Mommy got the BMW back from the dealer. She spent over a couple thousand dollars on repairing a thermostat, a gasket and a couple of oxygen sensors in the engine. The lesson we learned is that we would never buy BMW again. Mommy took the twins to the piano lesson in the afternoon.Mommy bought takeout for dinner because she has not recovered yet. She had chill and her fever returned to 100°F before she went to bed.

Irene's girl Chloe was 2.5 years old. She sat next to the twins. We asked Jasmine to play with her and draw some pictures for her. After awhile, the little girl commented in Cantonese that this big girl couldn't speak. We had a great laugh at the comment. Since the little girl only speak Cantonese and Jasmine only spoke English and Mandarin, so Jasmine didn't say a word. We took this opportunity to motivate the twins to speak more of their mother tongue. When we got home, the twins urged daddy to change the water of the fish tub. It had been three weeks and the water was yellow. The fish looked healthy, the color of the water came from the flake we fed them.
We were invited to dinner at Siu Ling's place. Clare's and Terence's family were invited too. She and Sharleen prepared so much food for dinner that most of us stopped eating after only half of the dishes were served to the table. After dinner, the kids watched the Pink Panther Classic Cartoon Collection DVD we bought recently. The DVD set consisted of 5 discs with over 13 hours of material. The kids were not done with the first disc by the time we left the party. When the twins got home, they went straight to bed after brushing because they already took shower in the afternoon.

We went to lunch with Christopher's and Benjamin's family. After we picked up grandma Chui, we drove over half an hour to San Mateo. We all wanted to tried a Hong Kong style restaurant which served snacks seldom found in the US. We were all lured by the TV commercial to the restaurant. However, the food quality was not as good as we expected, though we got to order may different varieties. Brandon's basketball match would start at 2pm and they felt too rushed to come to lunch. We returned home and the kids played together for a while. They left for Joie's ceramic class at 3pm. We had lunch with grandma Chui at a Malaysian restaurant. We had not had that for quite a while and the twins also missed the spicy food. We came home and went to the park on the bikes and roller blades. The twins not only wanted to ride the bikes, they wanted to run a lap around the park on foot. The twins practiced piano before dinner. We went out to a Korean dinner with Terence family. Terence had a slumber party the day before and his parent picked him up at 5pm. He slept the whole time right after we left for the restaurant. He slept through the dinner. We returned home after dinner for dessert the guests brought us. Terence continued to sleep until they left for home. Apparently, he pulled an all-nighter in his slumber party the night before.

Daddy needed to take grandma Chui to the clinic in the morning. Daddy told the twins that mommy could stay in bed and daddy would be taking them to school. The twins were so excited that they set their alarm clock to go off 20 minutes early. Since daddy got ready much faster than mommy, the twins were requesting to leave the house early. We arrived at the school at 8:05am. We were the first in the whole school yard. The twins were very satisfied because they eventually beat Cyrus to arrive first at school. Joanne asked daddy if daddy like Cyrus. Daddy asked why the question. Joanne reminded that Cyrus tore up some of drawings daddy did for the twins. Daddy said nobody liked rude kids who destroyed other people's belongings.Mommy took the twins to the dentist appointment. The dentist screwed up the schedule. Mommy and twins left after waiting for an hour. Mommy decided to change dentist because of the staff's unprofessionism in multiple occasions. The mishandling of today's appointment was just the last straw.
