Isn't it amazing the chance encounters one can have? ...whilst signwriting an Airforce Canteen window at Ohakea, (my longest posting whilst in the mob) I noticed a gent peering into the back of my car, where I had a set of 16 inch Austin 7 "offset" wheels to deliver to the paint shop for topcoating in British racing green. A conversation ensued, the topic, once he was informed of the wheels origins, centred on an A7 special built by his father and the photos he still had of the vehicle. |

These are the copies produced. A bonus was being able to talk with the owner at the time these photos were taken, shortly after construction finished in 1938. Built to resemble the current sports model of the day, the Nippy, it was based on a circa 1928 car and took a number of months to complete. Details of the construction techniques are sketchy after 60 odd years, but the very helpful bloke was able to remember each tradesman whom he trusted with the task of producing what must have been a very striking baby Austin in it's day. |
