11-05-00 (cont) The motor is now back from the reconditioners, and is slowly being assembled for test fitting the respective parts. Bores still require final honing - probably another 2-3 thou. Some wear is still evident near the top of the cylinders ,but should be taken care of with the final honing.
The Renault big ends have been sized to fit the Phoenix crank shaft, and the little ends pinfitted with new bushes from the A7 Club. Naturally the top and bottom faces have been decked and surfaced flat. An errant thread has been heli coiled, however another requires attention as it has been drilled out of centre at some stage with the result that the existing hole taps through part of the remaining stud. Very ugly and totally undesirable in the block to head mating surface.
Side faces have been trued by draw filing to save a little cash. This can be recommended as it did not take long, came out very well and did not require much metal removal.
The Cambridge head has had a very ugly repair along the top of the water outlet re-repaired very professionally by the guys at BnB. The "9B" has also been welded around two water galleries that were corroded most of the way through.
Yamaha motor bike valves have been purchased for use in the inlets. They are very slim in the shank and therefore lightweight, plus they are 1.222 inches across the tulip shaped head. This may need to be turned down some what, but was the best compromise from what was available.

Below and to the left are the 2 parts to the pressure fed nose cone as supplied by Grant Cowie of Up the Creek Workshop.
The cover to the left has still to be drilled and tapped to take the nose piece below, in itself a very clever arrangement, as it can be fitted to this, a coil motor assembly, or straight onto the front of a mag. motor.
