Commentary: A note: yes it's being uploaded far later than it actually is, but I decided to retroactively date it because I had this chart up for a while- just never got around to posting this until now. This'll now become a biweekly chart.
In any case, the best way I can sum up this week is H.I.M. My goodness, I can't get enough of "Rip Out The Wings Of A Butterfly"- what a song that is! I don't believe I've ever heard a hook that's more inescapable and a song that compelling in a while, and that's why it enters at No. 1. The band's been looking for their surefire hit and they'd better get it with this song. The other two entries- Disturbed's "Just Stop" (now confirmed as a single, meaning "Overburdened" has now been dropped further down the chart) and Juelz Santana's "There It Go (The Whistle Song)" are also pretty notable: "Just Stop" is the kind of instant-but-compelling smash that Disturbed are great at creating, while Santana's song took a while to really grow on me but after listening to that "G'd up swagger" I was hooked. Party rap songs may border on the silly when it comes to bravado, but in Santana's case he's very capable of pulling it off, and pulling it off well. New entries to the "now playing" list are Dala with their now confirmed second single "Drive Thru Summer" and- I thought I'd never say this, but I am- Guns 'N' Roses with "IRS". Look for both to challenge for chart positions in the near future.
Other notable movers include Fall Out Boy and Dala, with the former really challenging KT Tunstall (whose "Black Horse And The Cherry Tree" is still going strong) and H.I.M. for the most gripping song of the year (it's certainly the catchiest), while the latter's melancholic, relaxing feel is really endearing on to me and is really growing on me as a single. It could challenge for the top in the near future. As far as Sum 41 is concerned, its age is showing a little, but "Pieces" fell more because of circumstance than me not liking it as much as I did before- H.I.M. forced pretty much everyone down the chart, and "Pieces" faced an uphill battle against Tunstall and Keith Urban. Could rebound in later weeks.
That's the chart. See you in two weeks.
