Commentary: Notice anything different? That's right- it's a chart now. The Playlist began as a Top 15 in the first place, and since that's how many songs I can fit on a CD-RW (what I use for travelling), it made sense to bring it back. I'll update this every week.
What long time readers may notice is that this is technically the first chart that Michelle Branch isn't on. Not that I'm any less of a fan of hers (though she's got some explaining to do about the whole Message Board thing...)- I've just always found her work with Santana not as good as her work by herself, and "I'm Feeling You" is a part of that. Plus, she hasn't had any real new material since around this time last year ("'Till I Get Over You" was her previous official single), so it's hard to get excited about her now. May re-enter, or, if the Wreckers ever get into gear, she'll get back that way.
Couple of new entries to mention: Disturbed's "Overburdened" enters highly at 4, it being the best song on "Ten Thousand Fists" though it's not an official single (Yahoo! has a video for "Just Stop" but it was a "featured animation" so I don't know if it's an official single), and Italian dance outfit The Stellar Project, who collaborate with Californian Brandi Emma for "Get Up Stand Up", a single off the Ministry Of Sound's 2005 compilation that merited inclusion after several spins. Underground hip-hop acts N.I.F.T.Y. and Mind Bender enter the "Bubbling Under" list, as does Angel City's collaboration with Lara McAllen, "Do You Know" (also off the Ministry of Sound album), which received heavy airplay itself on Toronto dance station Z103.5 in late 2005 and thought well enough of it that I felt I should play it myself. Last, but not least, in the "Bubbling Under" section is David Francey's "Wishing Well", a song about the media coverage of Timothy McVeigh's execution. Look for that one to vie for a chart position.
As far as movers are concerned, the big one is at the top- KT Tunstall's "Black Horse And The Cherry Tree" is now No. 1 displacing Keith Urban's "You'll Think of Me", but to be honest both of them are equals- I figured it was the Scotswoman's turn at the top this time around. Anna Nalick rockets up eight (really digging that anger there), while Athlete and Big & Rich stumble out of the top ten, mainly because I don't think both are as strong as I once thought they were. Cradle of Filth's slide downwards is because I like Nightwish's song better (which is the only other song to move up), but "Gabrielle" is still going strong at No. 7. Sum 41 sticks around at 3.
That's the chart. See you next week.
