Lions Clubs are located throughout the world. No doubt you have seen the Lions Club emblem at a restaurant or near the city limits sign on a major road. You may have wondered if the sign was for a secret society, or a religious order, or perhaps a club restricted to community and business leaders.

We are not a secret society. Lions Clubs have been a well-kept secret, but we are attempting to change that. We do not have a large advertising budget and most of our community service projects have been kept low key. Lions do not become involved in a project to gain recognition. We do it because we see a need and make every attempt to fulfill that need. Every dollar we raise goes to a needy family, a crippled children’s camp, eyeglass screening for disadvantaged children, or any one of our numerous programs.

Lions Clubs are not affiliated with any religion. Nor are Lions Clubs affiliated with any political groups. Lions Clubs are to be kept free of any ties in these areas to prevent internal strife.

Even though the bulk of most Lions Club members are community and business leaders, membership in Lions Clubs is not restricted. Lions Clubs have members who are retirees, students, construction workers, policemen, schoolteachers, doctors, and CEOs of corporations. In times past, the Lions Club membership was entirely composed males. Today, both males and females are invited to join. We have a number of couples in which both partners have become Lions. This does not mean the non-member spouses do not support Lionism. Many non-member spouses find time to support the activities of the Lions Clubs.
