About Fernando Vargas
Accomplishments
Fernando currently holds a professional record of 26 wins to only 2 losses with 22 wins by way of knockout.  His victims have included Yory Boy Campas for the IBF Junior Middleweight title, and title defenses against Howard Clarke, Raul Marguez, Winkly Wright, Ike Quartey, Ross Thompson.

Fernando, a 1996 Boxing Olympian, captured his first world title at only 21 years old after defeating Yory Boy Campas. Vargas, the youngest ever IBF Jr. Middleweight Champ, won his second world title, the WBA Junior Middleweight title in September 2001, after defeating Shibata Flores in 7 rounds.  He has beaten seven current or former world champions and fully established himself as one of boxing youngest and brightest stars after his rousing defeat of former welterweight champion, Ike "Bazooka" Quartey.

His only 2 losses have come against boxing greats Felix "Tito" Trinidad in 12 rounds and Oscar De La Hoya in 11, but in both fights, Fernando showed his warrior's heart, each time overcoming adversity, leaving everything in the ring, and giving his fans their money's worth.

In his first fight back since De La Hoya, Fernando defeated the WBC #1 Jr. Middleweight Contender, Fitz Vanderpool, stopping him in 6 rounds. Fernando was also named HBO's Fighter of the Month for July 2003.
On December 12, 2003, Fernando defeated Tony Marshall in 7 rounds, including a knockdown of Marshall in round 2.  The fight was televised live on Telefutura.

Although sidelined for much of the 2004 boxing year to a back injury, Fernando returned in March to defeat Raymond Joval in front of a packed, sold out Bank Center in Corpus, and 5 months later, Vargas took care of Javier Castillejo in a 10 round majority decicsion.

Fernando is currently ranked #2 by the WBC and #2 by the WBA, and is set for a big time showdown with former champ, Sugar Shane Mosley, a fight long overdue.

Fernando Vargas is the pride of Oxnard California and is looking for his 3rd shot at a world title belt.  Fernando was the youngest IBF Junior Middle Weight Champion at only 21 years and 5 months of age.
