UDC CHAPTER #2652
A Letter from President,
Catherine Welch-Warren:
Greetings from the ladies of the Colorado UDC,

Little known to most people, Colorado is rich in Confederate history.  With the outbreak of hostilities in 1861, Colorado would be no stranger to the bloody war brewing in the East.  Denver would informally be considered a Confederate city for several days in the Spring of 1861.  Modern day Beulah sits near the location of a battalion sized Confederate camp of instruction.  In 1862, a battle was fought near Pecos, New Mexico, and is commonly referred to as "Gettysburg of the West".  The Confederate soldiers engaged in this battle had been headed north to seize Denver City and the Colorado gold fields.  At the conclusion of the War, Southern families, refugees from devastation and the advent of Reconstruction, relocated to the Colorado Territory.  Confederate veterans would be responsible for a lion's share of settling what would later be the state of Colorado.  Many of these veterans are interred throughout the State.
The Margaret Howell Davis Hayes Chapter #2652, chartered in August 2005, is named after the daughter of Jefferson Davis who resided in Colorado from 1885 until her death.
The UDC has a proud history of patriotic service and benevolent activities.  The ladies of Colorado have taken part in memorial services, given aide to the victims of hurricane Katrina, and donated to a number of charitable organizations.
The chapter meets regularly for lunch and fellowship and to listen to a variety of select speakers.
If you are a lady of Confederate heritage, you are cordially invited to consider membership in the United Daughters of the Confederacy.

                                                                                     God bless the South,
                                                                                     Catherine Welch-Warren
