Dear Colin, I would just like to let you know how we got on in Wales. I suppose the best thing to say is that we had a wonderful time. Tenby is the most beautiful place, its so peaceful and the little town is lovely, you feel like you are in France with all the cobbled streets and alleyways and then the wonderful sights of the sea and beach when you least expect it. I went for a walk every morning down the beach and into the town and I did`nt spend a fortune but I had a few little bits and pieces home with me which remind me of Tenby. We went to the vineyards near cross hands, we got some wine to taste and we brought home a bottle, it was interesting to talk to the people about the farming etc in the area and we seen their vineyards. We went to Avondale glass where my ten year old son was allowed to blow glass and we watched as the man made the most wonderful things out of glass, it was fantastic. We spent a full day at Oakwood and the older boys plus my husband very killed themselves on the rides and they are still talking and telling people about it. We went to the open markets at the round a bout and for 1 I got a set of brass candlesticks for my mother, they were old and dirty but she had cleaned them up and is delighted with them. We went to Carmarthen one afternoon and had a look around, we met an old gentleman in the pub who had moved to the town in 1961 from Bristol, he worked on the railway, his wife is now dead and he said that Carmarthen was a very suitable place for old people like him to live, he would never go back to Bristol, he was 82 years but did not look it. My husband had fun ordering a pint of `mixed` which is beer with a dash of Guinness, the barmaid was amused at this. We covered all the little places around us in the evenings like St. Florence and I think it was the most relaxing holiday we have ever had. The beach was wonderful and loads of place to play football and mess around which was all they seemed to do. The beach was so clean. We went to Swansea shopping one day and my husband got a pair of walking shoes in the The Officers something or other for 10, they were reduced from 59, we kept the tags because nobody would believe us. The boys got lovely shirts which are just coming out here and are costing a fortune to buy in the top shops, they got their shirts for 5 each in the warehouse sales in the city. We had such fun that day, we must have spent 100 and every penny was worth it because we got great bargains. Just to finish up, the most thing I noticed different to Ireland is (1) the cost of living - food and clothes are half what we pay here for them and (2) the amount of little industries which are being operated from peoples back yards, its amazing and they are making a living out of this. We bought food in the little farm market just outside of Tenby and my husband bought duck eggs, we taught this was really funny but the truth of it is that they are hard got in Ireland anymore, so it was a novelty to get them. I will finish for now and thanks for all your photos and information before we went. I am not reading this back so I hope its not too muddled. Best wishes Anne & family.
