It was considered to be unfair as Norrland with approximately 20% of the clubs had as many division 2 series as Götaland with roughly 50% of the clubs. To remedy this Götaland got two division 2 series from the 1955/56 season on. They were to have 20 teams altogether, making it 20 Götaland division 2 teams instead of 14. The new groups were named Östra Götaland and Västra Götaland, respectively. As a consequence of the additional group the promotion playoff to Allsvenskan was re-installed.
