About the Online Esperanto Hymnal
TTT-Himnaro Cigneta (roughly "Cygnet WWW-Hymnal" in Esperanto) was conceived in late 1996 or early 1997 as a collection of my own Esperanto hymn texts (original and translated) on my personal website, La Lilandejo, based at http://www.scn.org/~lilandbr/. Soon, I discovered the wealth of English and Anglo-American hymns available at The Cyber Hymnal, and I decided that a similar resource should be made available for Esperanto-singing hymnnuts like myself. So I expanded my collection to include hymns I didn't write or translate myself, and moved it to my (larger) GeoCities site, http://www.geocities.com/lilandr/, where I tinkered with the mechanics of indexing and linking hymn texts and MIDI files. Once I had an idea how such a hymnal might be organized, I cut it loose from La Lilandejo, establishing a separate website, http://www.geocities.com/cigneto/ devoted solely to the web-hymnal, in the name of Eldonejo Cigneto, the Seattle Esperanto publishing imprint. There it has thrived for several years now, growing from 81 hymns (65 in Esperanto) in July 2000 to nearly 500 hymns, more than 400 of them in Esperanto, at this writing (20 September 2002).
