Apteronotus Albifrons
"Black Ghost Knife"

In the wild this fish accrues in rapidly flowing waters of creeks with sandy bottoms.  Found from Venezuela to Paraguay and Parana' rivers of South America.  It is a micro predator of insect larvae and is Nocturnal.  Feeding should take place when you turn off the tanks lights. This fish does not take to well to flake food and should be fed Brine shrimp or worms (frozen is fine, in fact is safer as you do not have to worry about any bacteria).  This fish is normally peaceful but can sometimes be aggressive.  You must supply this fish with a dark cave of some kind.  I used drift or bog wood with a nice big hole through it and he took right to it.

Tank Size: 35 gallon hexagon
Tank Temp: 78
Tank pH: 8.0
Adult Size:  20" or ( 50.0 cm )

Breeding information:
You need to imitate the rainy season for several weeks.  You can do this by removing about 5% of the tanks water daily and replacing it with desalted water. You should replace about 50% of the total water volume using this method.  By doing this you will lower the salt and pH value of the breeding water.  When replacing water let the water splash on the surface of the tank to future imitate the rainy season.  Once your fish spawn you no long need to play rain man LOL.  You will however want to make sure you pH does not raise to quickly.  Good luck I do not think I will be trying to breed this fish any time soon.
