Sonic the Hedghehog Story Ideas by Chronos the Cat
Author's Note: I have more story ideas than I'll ever have time to write. Rather than keeping them to myself, I have decided to share some of them so others might have a change to take them up. If you wish to work with one of these ideas, all I ask is that you credit me, and let me know where I can read the finished product.
Below are my ideas for “Sonic the Hedgehog” stories. Most assume a SatAM or Archie-Sonic setting, though some would work in other settings.
-- Mobian Horror --
Mobius of the Undead:
Robotnik and Snively are investigating an ancient temple, searching for a rumored power item, and ignoring the rumored curse. They become infected with a virus or bacteria that transforms its' victims into undead zombie-like creatures...
Possibility one: Either Robotnik or Snively manages to roboticize himself before the virus destroys his mind. He takes samples from the other, and devises a zombification/roboticization fusion. He then sets out to complete his conquest of the world.
Possibility two: Both Robotnik and Snivley become mindless zombies, and begin spreading the zombie plague (on a continent other than the one Knothole and Robotropolis are on). Some time after this, the FF discover Robotropolis running automated. They shut things down, and things seem to be looking up – until the zombie plague reaches their continent. (If this is based on pre-Endgame Archie-Sonic, some of the post-Endgame stuff could happen, and Sonic and/or Tails could be infected on their World Tour and carry it to Mobotropolis.)
Notes on the Zombie Plague (optional): Only organic beings can be infected. Some magical beings have immunity, or can cast protection spells. When a person is first infected, the infection can be treated medically (though it's a tough bug), but after a day or two the bug will have established itself too strongly to be removed. Once the bug has entrenched itself, the victim begins to hunger for living flesh – and if they do not get it, their bodies and minds will start to decay. Eating living flesh will heal the decay, but lost memories and knowledge are not restored. Power Rings, Chaos Emeralds, or similar magic will prevent the decay, but not restore decayed flesh.
Vampires of Mobius:
A vampire arises, and begins turning the people of Mobius. What happens when some of our heroes are turned? (Note: lots of different ways could play this. Some possibilities below.)
Creatures of Darkness/ Vampires of Robotropolis / Vampires of Knothole: Robotnik accidentally unleashes a vampire lord. Confrontation and either Robotnik is turned or the looser escapes. Sniv is turned. One of FF is captured on a mission by one of the vampires, and turned; leads vampires to Knothole where they begin secretly feeding.
Sonic the Vampire: Sonic and Tails encounter a vampire on their Mobius World tour. Are turned, but Sonic's Billionth Ring Aura allows him to retain his free-will (and soul?). (It would be cool if Sonic turns Tails so Tails is Sonic's vassel; but if both are free after defeat of Vampire, Tails could later become a villain.) ...Could lead to...
The Vampire of Mobotropolis: Peace has come to Mobius, but now something stalks the streets of Mobotropolis at night...
Werewolves of Mobius
One or more of the heroes becomes a werewolf. (And for the record, I thought of this before SEGA did, not that I thought the idea particularly original.) Do the Mobians become four-legged wolves, or do they become wolf-hybrids? One possible source of the lycanthropy – what if the “Curse” of the Wolfpack ruins were real?
The Crystal Plague: (New SatAM/Archie based continuity)
When the Freedom Fighters piece the Zone of Silence and enter the Crystal Void to rescue the King, they find a world inhabited by brainwashed individuals serving the sorcerer Naugus. King is villain, but turns incoherent and starts turning to crystal when removed from the Void. Sally is bitten by the King, and also starts turning to crystal and going insane. Plague begins to spread through bites.
Power Rings or magic of Merlin Prower might protect some, or heroes might need to rely upon robotization to save themselves. Knuckles knows tribal cures for the plague - but does he know the FF and that the plague is on Mobius as well?
When Naugus reaches Mobius, he can control all crystal zombies. Crystal begins spreading out from the portal or a crystal he brought, turning the landscape into crystal.

Note: Any of these ideas could work in either a SatAM-based or Archie-based Mobius – though the circumstances of Bunnie's possible roboticization would be different.
Cute Little Bunnie
World where Bunnie was partially roboticized as a child, but her parts "grew" with her; when they try to deroboticize her, she is restored to the exact physical form she had when she was roboticized!

What if Sonic rescued Bunnie before she was roboticized at all?
Bunnie Rabbot: Limbs (What Ifs)
What if Bunnie were more or less roboticized?:
Bunnie: Split Personality
What if Bunnie was mostly roboticized? Enough of her brain is roboticized that her Mobian and Robian halves are constantly fighting for control...
Bunnie Rabbot: Cyborg Slave
What if all of Bunnie but part of her head were roboticized? She has free will, but desires a master, and chooses Sally over Robotnik. Capable of acting on her own initiative, but prefers to have orders, and will do anything Sally says. Enhanced vision and hearing; less need for food but requires other forms of energy/fuel more often. (This idea was inspired by Alex Warlorn's comments on the picture corresponding with “Bunnie: Split Personality”)
Bunnie Robot
What if Sonic was not able to rescue Bunnie before she was completely Roboticized? How would the series go without her (at least up to "Sonic Conversions" in SatAM)?

Antoine & Sally:
What if Sally and Antoine were engaged to each other at birth (like in Archie)?
Untold Tales: Tails & Bunnie (From Original Opening Storyboards seen on the DVD Boxed Set): Robotnik hoverjet leading Buzzbomber attack on what appears to be Mobotropoils. Buzzbombers capturing Mobians. One about to grab Tails when Sonic runs in and rescues him. Sonic and Tails meet up w/ Sally and Boomer in hiding.
Wall of Roboticizer chambers... Muttski and others roboticized, head off.
Sonic distracts Swatbots, Sal jumps in and hooks Nicole into computer. Some of the chambers have started to activate when they shut down and open. Bunnie comes out, partly roboticized, as do others. (Dog in chamber next to hers has partly mechanical left arm.)
Sonic is surrounded by Swatbots, but Sal throws him a power ring and he breaks free in Spin mode. Robo attacks w/ wrecking ball, but Sonic dodges and ball hits roboticizer building and gets stuck in it, causing hover-jet to crash. Sonic grabs Bun, Sal, Boomer and Tails, and runs off.)
Tail-less:
What if Sonic hadn't been able to save Tails (during the alternate opening sequence)?
Metal-Tails:
What if Tails had been captured and put in the same group as Bunnie, and thus also ended up partially roboticized?
Tails and Bunnie Rabbot: Cyborgs
Tails captured and put with Bunnie's group; Tails partially roboticized and Bunnie more roboticized than cannon.
Tail-less and Bunnie Robot
Tails captured and put with Bunnie's group; Sal unable to save them.
Death of Sonic: "Heads or Tails"
What if Mutski killed Sonic in the junkyard? Tails is captured and roboticized. Buzzbomers release defoliant on Great Forest and reveal Knothole. FF and villagers must escape and rebuilt elsewhere, and continue the fight without Sonic or Tails. (“Cat” may play a more significant role.)
Death of Sonic: "Sub Sonic"
If Rotor had been unable to get free of the tentacle in the oil pit, he would have been dragged under, and Sonic, Sally, and Ant. would have drowned. Robotnik would have gotten a large supply of oil, and the Great Forest would have continued to die. Bunnie, Tails, and the villagers would have to carry on (possibly w/ help from the Lower Mobians).
Substitute
What if in “Sonic and Sally” the roboticizer hadn't had so many failures? Sally would have been roboticized by the time Sonic and the android got there. Sonic returns w/ the android, and Rotor reprograms her to work for their side.
Slaves & Evil Magic
What if in “Super Sonic”, Lazar's Spell crystal were broken in the fight? Evil and magic is released and begins to alter Robotropolis. Sonic escapes with Sally and Bunnie, who are still slaves to Robotnik. Lazar cannot undo the spell w/out his crystal, but he can change their master. Since the King is still missing, and there are no others they would wish to follow, he transfers their loyalty to Sonic. Lazar then sets out to neutralize the Evil Magic.
Death of Sonic: "Harmonic Sonic"
What if Sonic and Rotor had been unable to escape Sky Spy before it blew?
Death of Sonic: "Hooked on Sonics"
What if Sonic had not been able to dodge all the blasts sent his way by the Sonic Radar? ...Ant would have been roboticized, Robotnik would have had a Power Ring to examine, and the remaining FF would have had to figure out how to stop the Shredder Bot.
Death of Sonic: "Sonic's Nightmare"
Sonic had a close call when he first arrived on the island; also, Robotnik was almost able to launch a missile at him from stealth mode at the end. In either case, Sally, Bunnie, and Ant would have been killed. Rotor, Tails, and the Knothole villagers would have had to fight on against Robotnik without most of the Freedom Fighters.
Death of Sonic: "Warp Sonic"
If Griff hadn't rescued the FF, Sonic, Sally, and Ant would have been killed/captured.
Fall of Lower Mobius
In “Warp Sonic”, if Ant hadn't woken up so soon after Griff stole the Power Rock, Sonic wouldn't have made it to Lower Mobius in time to stop the Rat Bots from destroying it. Alternately, a darker than cannon Sonic might choose not to save the Lower Mobians after what Griff did.
Feud
If Sonic hadn't forgiven Griff in “Warp Sonic” and split the Power Rock, a feud could have started between Knothole and Lower Mobius.
Death of Bunnie: "Sonic Past Cool"
If the Terrapod Crate had not stopped at the last moment, it would have crushed Bunnie. Freedom Fighters overcome their grief in time to escape the force-field. Adventures continue w/out Bunnie.
Fall of Freedom:
In “Sonic Past Cool”, if the Terrapod Crate had not stopped at the last moment, it would have crushed Bunnie. Freedom Fighters unable to overcome their grief in time to escape the force-field. Are roboticized... leaving only Antoine left of the Knothole Freedom Fighters!
A Parting of the Ways
In “Sonic Past Cool”, what if Tails had decided to take Baby T's offer, and stay w/ the Terrapods?
Death of Sally: "Sonic & the Secret Scrolls"
Sally chose the wrong scroll - and paid for it with her life.
Death to Humans
What if Robotnik & Snivley had really died at the end of “Sonic and the Secret Scrolls”?
Meet Dulcy
How the FF met Dulcy.
Clipped Wings
What if the FF had not met Dulcy? She was important to several stories, but esp Blast to the Past - without her, Sally would have remained depressed, and no attempt would have been made to find the Time Stones. Rosie would remain dead/roboticized.

What if Emperor Ixus Mammoth "Mogul" had not been dethroned? Sonic and other modern Mobians fight for freedom. (No Sally or Knuckles, as their lineages would never have been established.)

What if the Order of Ixus, under command of Mammoth Ixus, had conquered the world in the fist millennium?
World of the Echidnas
What if Echidna Civilization (Either Albion or Echidnaopolis) had not fallen?
World Without Echidnas
What if when the World-Wide Echidna Civilization of Albion had fallen, Echidnas had died out completely?

The Return of Sonic & Bunnie
Sonic and Bunnie were abducted by Carheem (who came to Mobius much earlier than in the comic in this universe) in the 3220s. After many adventures, they have returned to Mobius, only to discover the planet devastated by Robotnik.

What if the vat of chemicals Sally fell in prior to Issue 0 (as mentioned in Knuckles 29) was different?:

What if Sonic had been unable to avoid the Megamuck at the beginning of the story? Entire series without Sonic.
“Virtual Reality Nightmare”
Mecha Sally
Sally was never deroboticized after "Steel Belted Sally" (Sonic 29). How will the Knothole villagers react to having a robot among them, and as leader of the FF to boot?
...Months after Robotnik's demise, the Robians remain robotic, and have been relocated to Knothole. Where shall Sally live, and how will this affect the line of succession for the crown?
Death of Sally: Issue 47
What if Sally really had died from her fall?
"Frozen in Time" (Sonic 50 branch)
Sonic awakens in Robotropolis after UA explosion. Runs across Bunnie and Ant. Head to ruins of Knothole and finds it to be intact in a zone that is frozen in time. (Later research will reveal that UA field interacted with lingering traces of the time-freeze utilized years ago.)
“Bem There, Done That”
What if, instead of turning all Robians into Mobians, the Bem had turned all Mobians into free-willed Robians? (For one thing, the Xorda probably wouldn't have seen the Robians as targets.)

Amnesia Virus:
A virus spreads across Mobius, causing it's victims to permanently loose all personal memories up to that point (robots are immune). (Possibly this is a plot of Robotnik's to weaken the Freedom Fighters.)
Body Switching Madness:
Stories where characters switch bodies...
Second Time Around
Doomsday (SatAM) or Endgame (Archie) resulted in the destruction of life on Mobius. Somehow (his Billionth ring perhaps?), Sonic survives. Some further plot device (Time Stones? Robotnik's time machine? Ancient Walkers?) sends him (and Sally in SatAM?) back in time to the start of the chronicled adventures to try to prevent the tragedy. He (or they) take the place of his/their past self/selves.
A Tale of Amnesia:
Have someone in the main cast get Hollywood-style amnesia.... (And not wind up fooled into working for Robotnik or Snivley!)
