I have
traced the the Sneads to
Samuel Snead who was born
in Staffordshire,
England. He was given
headrights for 200 acres
for transporting his
wife, son William, (born
1629 in St Margarets,
London, Westminster,
England) and a servant
(Henry Vincent....maybe a
relative). Land patient
dated August 4, 1635 in
Kiskiackshire. which
later was known as York
Co, Virginia.
Originally,
the family name was
Sneyd. It was modernized
to Snead, Sneed, and
Sned. Now they are
scattered all over the
United States. In our
family the Sneads are
intermarried with the
Apeha family, full-blood
Choctaws, who were part
of the Trail of Tears of
the Indian Removals of
the 1830s. They were
settled in the Indian
Territory which is now
Oklahoma. There are many
White Sneads and Choctaw
Sneads.

I know
very little about my
grandmother Snead's
family. Her father was
Aaron Scott SMITH, and
her mother was Rosa GEST.
They were both from
Sulphur Rock, AR. In 1897
Scott was 27 and Rosa was
21. In a letter received
from an aunt, I learned
that grandma was the only
child of Aaron Scott
SMITH and Rosa GEST. I
don't know what happened
to Rosa, but Aaron SMITH
remarried Della UNKNOWN
and had six more
children. Grandmother
SNEAD named me, Bessie, I
assume, after her
half-sisters, Bessie, one
of the twins.

The
Harrington were from
England, but I have not
been able to find when
the 1st one came to
America. I have only been
able to trace the
Harrington family tree
back to Hamilton (Hamp)
W. Harrington of
Arkansas. (from the 1800
United States Census)
