Paul Thorn - Are You With Me? (2004)

Kris Kristofferson said, "Paul Thorn may be the best kept secret in the music business" and I have to agree with him! Although most of my reviews are reserved for local artists, Paul Thorn is one of a select few that I am willing to go beyond that guideline. He's just that good!

When I first experienced Paul and his music in 2002, I was amazed! He is, in my humble opinion, one of the best songwriters in the world today. His latest album, 'Are You With Me' is a perfect example of it!

It kicks off with the upbeat, almost airy, "Lovers Vacation", and allows that sound and feel to carry through most of the record. Produced by Sweet T & Black Eyed Pea, the songs are loaded with a raw energy that has always been evident in Pauls music, but is somehow accentuated by the highly polished production.

There are a couple of great ballads on the album (Paul has a great touch for them) but over all this album maintains an energetic level that is infectious, and thoroughly enjoyable! The addition of a horn section adds an extra depth to Pauls strong vocal style, and produces a sound that is so comfortable, it feels like you're sitting in on a session with the band.

It's a great sound, and an excellent album. Pick yourself up a copy of "Are You With Me" and find out for yourself.
