Richard Shindell - Vuelta (2004)

A singer/songwriter of seemingly limitless talent, Richard Shindell is back with a collection of powerful new songs that show the depth of his ability. He has always been able to turn a compelling tale, as witnessed by his previous 4 studio albums, but the multifaceted nature of this new album is impressive.

This is an album of such subtle complexity that, just by listening to it, one is drawn into Shindell's world, challenged to open their mind and experience the the world around them, as seen through the artists passionate eye. Even the name, "Vuelta", has a host of potential meanings or interpretations, as well as connections to a book of poetry, and a literary journal, founded by Octavio Paz.

The songs on this album are like a crowded room of strangers. Each one with their own story, their own mood, and each in possession of a fascinating personality to intrigue or beguile. But each one is also a potential friend, that by telling you their story, become a part of you. This is the nature of Shindell's writing. Beyond a singer/songwriter, he is a weaver of tales, a fellow traveller on the long rocky road we call life. It is a journey made all the better by his joining you.

So pull on your Che Guevara T-shirt and come meet all these strangers. Take the time to get to know them, and I'm sure you'll find a few old friends that you didn't even know you had.
