Ray Lake - There's Gonna Be A Time Tonight

In Newfoundland terms, a "Time" is a Party. That's an important fact to know when you first open this CD.

Although there has been much debate over the years about separate and distinct societies within Canada, few can argue the point that Newfoundland is at the very least, Unique. Where else can you find an artist like Ray Lake? An artist who redefines modern traditional music.

Here's a young man who grew up in a small community on the southern shore, surrounded by the traditional sounds of outport Newfoundland. Music of the people, the soundtrack of a traditional Newfoundland 'Time', played on the Fiddle and the Accordion. But at night, the radio challenged those musical influences with the allure of rock and roll, the Beatles, the Rolling Stones.

So what does Ray do?

He takes them both, and melds them into "There's Gonna Be A Time Tonight", an unique blend of traditional sounds, and rock influences. But this isn't just another Celtic Rock, or Irish Newfoundland album... this is a blending of two opposing musical forms, carefully shaped and lovingly crafted, into a sound that can only be described as "modern traditional music". Check it out, and you'll see what I mean!
