David Knopfler - Ship of Dreams (2005)

I will freely admit that I am a fan of the Dire Straits. But as I say this, I must confess that, up until recently, I was not as familiar with David Knopflers solo works as I was with Mark Knopfler's. The brothers started the Dire Straits all those years ago, but after three records David went his own way and started a Solo Career that has seen him release a string of albums, the most recent of which is "Ship of Dreams".

His ability as a songwriter is beyond question. I find David Knopfler is as talented as any I have heard in years. He has an honest lyrical quality to his writing that perfectly suits his world weary, soulful voice. On "Ship of Dreams" he has created a powerful collection of original songs that travel with you, in your heart and soul, long after the CD has ceased to spin.

In a sound that may be reminiscent of the Dire Straits, David delivers his songs in a style that is uniquely his own. This album has an intimate quality to it, as if somehow he is singing directly to you, sharing his deepest secrets and capturing your heart.

From the delightfully quirky "4U (the Rabbit Song)", to the lush and passionate title track, "Ship of Dreams" is a wonderful collection of music that will leave you breathless, longing for more.
