David William - Radio Octave (2003)

There is an unfortunate tendency, in the music industry, to catagorize every artist that comes along. To take their music, and force it into that little mass marketed box, wether it belongs there or not. With that running around in the back of my mind (or whats left of my mind) I listened to the new David William CD, Radio Octave

This album will be tagged a Pop album, (It's unavoidable) but after going through it a couple of times, I am finding it harder to force it into that little box. Yes, it has a cute name, the tight harmonies, and it is melodic... but it isnt the usual pandering pop pablum that commercial radio tends to force feed the mindless masses.

This album has a soul, and a musical conscience, that takes it just a little outside the box. It is a smooth collection of pop influenced, piano driven tunes, that are beautifully produced.

From the first classical strains of Solo Voce, you start to realize that maybe you have found something special. As you pass through David William's musical universe, you find yourself recognizing little influences in the music, that come up, totally unexpected, and hug you like an old friend.

This album won't shatter any geo political boundries. It won't change the human perception of music as we know it. It may not do the things that the industry deems to be important, but it will do somthing that is important for the listener. It will give you that unexpected hug. It will leave you with a smile.

That, in itself, makes this CD worth getting.
