Paul Thorn - Mission Temple Fireworks Stand (2002)

The only songwriter I have ever heard to successfully rhyme "Failure" with "Genitalia" is back with a great new album. Paul Thorns latest effort, "Mission Temple Fireworks Stand", is a testiment to this mans talent. With this, his fifth album, Thorn takes you down some of the side roads that we seldom travel in the freeway rush hours of our lives.

This album reminds me (in a strange sort of way) of one of those roadside Gospel tent revivals that you sometimes find, when you pull off the interstate, and travel the heartland, where billboards and treelines don't block out the human element of a country's charm. Where family, friends and community is more important than that deadline. Where 5 o'clock shadows replaces the 5:00 meeting.

An interesting mix of ideas, as illustrated in the title track, (Faith and Firecrackers?) create a tapestry, weaved with expert precision by Thorn. He is quickly distinguishing himself as a master songwriter.

So come with me, and worship at the Mission Temple Fireworks Stand... where Bottle Rockets are 2 for 1, and Salvation is Free!
