Mark Knopfler & Emmylou Harris - All The Road Running (2006)

Since leaving the Dire Straits behind, Mark Knopfler has gone on a singular journey through the worlds of music. He has explored and expanded his craft through his work with legendary musicians and songwriters like Van Morrison, James Taylor, Chet Atkins, Waylon Jennings and Roger Miller. Along the way he has gifted us with a collection of music that is incomparable. The latest chapter in his musical journey is a CD of duets with country superstar Emmylou Harris.

"All The Road Running" is a wonderful set of duets in the tradition of great Nashville couples like Waylon Jennings & Jesse Coulter. As with anything he releases, Knopfler is hands on, writing, performing and producing, creating something that will stand the test of time. This CD presents a collection of country tinged songs that are somewhat of a departure from his most recent works, and yet are a logical progression in style and form.

There is, as with all Knopfler compositions, an open honesty to this music. It is not a country album, yet it is complex in its simplicity. The vocal harmonies between the two produce and album that is eminently listen able, thoroughly enjoyable, and hauntingly beautiful.

It is sure to be a favourite with fans, and a magnet to draw a new generation of fans to two of the music industries brightest stars.
