This is a True Story of Life on the air...

I did a series of shows on which I gave away signed CD's as prizes. It was your basic straight forward "Call in and Win" kinda thing.

Early into the contest, I started getting calls from a young woman asking me about the contest and requesting songs. The calls became more regular, longer and friendlier, but I guess when you're busy you don't notice things like that. It wasn't anything crazy, (no Telephone sex or heavy breathing) just friendly conversations about music, movies, what ever was going on in the world.

Finally, after a Month or so of calls, she won the CD prize for that show. When I told her she was the winner, she became very excited and asked if she could come in and pick it up right away! As it happened, I had the CD's in hand and said if she wanted to she could come in and get it. She said she was on her way, and hung up. (I figured she was awful excited for one CD, but then again, some people are easily excited, and in my case... some DJ's are pretty Dense!)

When she arrived, she was not alone. She had her best friend in tow. As I was actually on Air, I had given the prize to one of the people in the station to present to her. He let her in and gave her the CD. She accepted it and told the guy she would love to meet me. He figured there was no harm and took them both into the Master Control room to meet me.

She walked in with a huge smile on her face, until she actually saw me. Then she looked me up and down slowly, with this look of total disbelief! I put my hand out to shake hands with her but she pulled back, like she was afraid to touch me. The only thing she could say was, "You're Terry Parsons?"

"Last time I checked." I quipped in true DJ fassion. You don't have to be a genius to figue out she was a bit taken aback by my appearance, so I said, "I guess I don't appear as you imagined?"

She shook her head, and said, in total dismayed, "But you're so F***ing Fat!"

An uncomfortable silence ensued...

Her friend, being a little more politically correct, took my hand and shook it, saying she enjoyed the show and was pleased to finally meet the guy she's been listening too for so long. I smiled and thanked her, but before I could get another word out, the other girl turned and left the MRC very quickly.

With an embarassed smile, the friend followed behind. Neither of them ever called in to the show again.

The incident inspired me to write a Poem. So I guess it wasn't all bad.
