Nu-Metal at its best. Soulfly's first CD really turned a lot of heads. One of the scariest bands ever, with most of their songs about hate, the death of Max Cavalera's stepson Dana, or soccer. Though, I wouldn't say they are anti-government. Shithead just thinks that because of the "Fuck all your politics" on "Back to The Primitive". My only complaint about this CD is that Max kinda went overboard with all the sound effects and shit, especially on the echoer. Oh well, it is a damn good CD nonetheless. We hope with "Eye For An Eye", and like Shithead, I was frightened by the opening, it took me totally by surprise. Like, there was silence, I was about to say something to a friend, all of a sudden there's a yell and some guitars. "No Hope = No Fear" is just pure Soulfly hate that introduces the none so famous "Soulfly Slowdown" pattern as some songs start with hate and end melo. "Bleed" featuring Fred Durst is a song dedicated to the murderers of Dana Wells, Max's stepson. One of the scariest songs ever. Even Fred Durst sounds emotional, though I would get rid of his rap-part. I mean geez, why the hell do you need that there? They should of just let Max go insane and just start cussing profusely while killing his guitar. It's good nonetheless, I love that word. I swear, the beginning of "Tribe" sounds just like the beginnning of a song off Sepultura- Roots that I have forgotten. Even when singing, Max sounds evil. "Bumba" to me has a hidden message. It's like them wanted to rise up and take over South America or something. Like in the background you here, "Pick up your gun it's time to rise" or something. Then I bet Bumba Umba means like Shoot Everything. Then near the end you have the part in Portugese or however you spell it. He's probably saying, "South America is ours, shoot everything. We must rise, shoot everything" or something like that, I don't know I'm paranoid. But I wouldn't be surprised if you hear about a Chilean holocaust in Brazil or something. "JUNGLE PEOPLE JUNGLE! NEVER UNDERESTIMATE THE POWER!" Makes you wonder what they are planning. The most evil song ever, "First Commandment" I remember a time when me and Shithead were listening to Soulfly- Primitive. There's a song called, "Soulfly (Universal Mix)", the beginning had the beginning of "First Commandment". Me and him were like, "Holy shit, they are gonna kill babies" Sadly, they did not play "First Commandment", but the damage has been done. We both have shit and creamed ourselves. God damn this song is evil. Especially where Chino whispers, "Broke the First Commandment" then everything dies. "Bumbklaat" is another pure Soulfly hatred songs about fakes. Then taking a break from all the evil, the instrumental "Soulfly" plays with all its 15 instruments included. It is soothing and keeps the CD from being one-dimensial. "Umbabarauma" god damn that title. That's as bad as Amir Dglhdljfljdflj of Orgy. This song is about Soccer and is a fun song about meaningless crap. I like "Quilombo" since it's about slaves. "Fire" is just a scary almost-speed metal song about bunnies I think. "The Song Remains Insane" goes back to Sepultura days with insane riffs and Max telling the world he's insane. "No" just kicks ass. "No motherfucking Hootie & The Blowfish" Who likes that band anyway? Good god, Max yells like 57 times in this song. "Prejudice" is my second favorite song off the CD for some reason. I don't know, I almost sorta like how they mixed in Benji's voice. As Shithead would say, "Chicken, you're a fag". And then we close the CD with the instumental "Karmageddon" whick kicks your dog's ass. God damn, Soulfly has the best instumentals. Overall, the CD is great. A must have for any fan. ANY! Though, I still think there's too many sound effects and they abused the echoer to hell. So that is why I am giving them a cool 4 1/2 stars instead of 5, I'll hang myself later. Favorite Song: "First Commandment" by far. "Prejudice" being second. |
