I started running in my first year of medical school (1996) to sweat out the smell of formaldehyde after anatomy lab. Prior to that, I had never run more than 2 miles at any one time and had never run a road race. Nevertheless, in line with my style of skipping stepping stones, I decided to run a marathon for my first race.
