October 10, 1868

First written accounts of a football game, played on the Ste-Catherine Street cricket grounds in Montreal.

April 8, 1872

The Montreal Football Club is organized.

October 12, 1872

The Montreal Football Club, wearing red and white, plays its first game in Quebec City at the Esplanade. The final score was 0-0.

May 14-15, 1874

Two-game series between McGill and Harvard in Boston, Massachusetts. Harvard won the first game 3-0 under American rules, and the teams tied 0-0 in the second game played under Canadian rules.

February 7, 1884

The Canadian Rugby Football Union is formed in Montreal.

November 30, 1907

The Montreal Football Club wins the Canadian Championship by defeating Peterboro, champion of the Ontario Union, 71-10.

1909

Albert Henry George Grey, the fourth Earl of Grey and Governor General of Canada, donates the Grey Cup to reward the Canada Rugby Union Champion.

December 5, 1931

The Montreal AAA Winged Wheelers defeat the Regina Rough Riders 22-0 in the Dominion senior football final at Molson Stadium bringing the Grey Cup to Montreal.

November 25, 1944

Playing coach Glen Brown leads the underdog HMCS Donnaconna to the conquest of the Grey Cup with a 7-6 win over the Hamilton Wildcats.

January 16, 1946

Lew Hayman becomes the owner of the Montreal Football Club.

March 15, 1946

Respected Montreal businessman Léo Dandurand gets involved in the Montreal Football Club. Lew Hayman and Léo Dandurand name the team the Alouettes, after seeing snowshoers sing the popular song in the Windsor Hotel Hall.

September 28, 1946

The Alouettes play their first home game at DELORMIER STADIUM in front of 13,722 spectators and defeat the Hamilton Tigers 21-6.

November 26, 1949

The Alouettes win the first Grey Cup of the young franchise’s history as they defeat the Calgary Stampeders 28-15 in Toronto.

1952

Quarterback Sam Etcheverry agrees to come play in Montreal for $6,000.

1953

The Alouettes establish their home at McGill University’s MOLSON STADIUM.

November 27, 1954

Alouettes running back Chuck Hunsinger attempts a lateral pass to a teammate but the pass falls in Eskimos’ Jackie Parker’s hands and Parker scores the touchdown that gives the Grey Cup to the Edmonton Eskimos.

November 8, 1960

The Alouettes trade their stars Sam Etcheverry and Hal Patterson to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats for Bernie Faloney and Don Paquette.

September 2, 1963

George Dixon sets a CFL record with 109-yard run from scrimmage in a 37-15 win over Ottawa at Molson Stadium.

1968

The Alouettes move to the AUTOSTADE.

November 28, 1970

The Alouettes win the Grey Cup by defeating the Calgary Stampeders 23-10 in Toronto under Head Coach Sam Etcheverry.

1972

The Alouettes move back to MOLSON STADIUM.

1973

The Alouettes move back to the AUTOSTADE.

February 15, 1973

Marv Levy is named Montreal Alouettes’ Head Coach.

November 24, 1974

Led by "The Ordinary Superstar" Johnny Rodgers, the Alouettes win the Grey Cup by defeating the Edmonton Eskimos 20-7 in Vancouver.

September 26, 1976

The Alouettes play their first game in their new home of OLYMPIC STADIUM in front of 68,505 fans.

November 27, 1977

In front of a record crowd of 68,318 spectators who braved a snowstorm and a public transportation breakdown to get to the Grey Cup game at OLYMPIC STADIUM, the Alouettes defeated the Edmonton Eskimos 41-6 and win their fourth Grey Cup. That season, the Alouettes established a CFL record drawing 476,201 total spectators to the games.

1981

The Alouettes fold. The CFL gives Montreal a new franchise and the Alouettes become the Montreal Concordes.

1986

The Concordes re-named the Alouettes for the club’s 40th anniversary (1946).

June 24, 1987

The Montreal Alouettes fold prior to start of season.

February 17, 1994

Baltimore granted expansion franchise.

February 6, 1996

Baltimore Stallions’ owner Jim Speros moves his team to Montreal and in honour of the 50th Anniversary of the founding of the Alouettes, re-names them the Alouettes.

March 1, 1997

Bob Wetenhall buys the Montreal Alouettes’ franchise. Larry Smith, former CFL Commissioner and former Montreal Alouettes’ player, is named President and Chief Executive Officer.

June 27, 1997

The Montreal Alouettes play their first game in ten years at OLYMPIC STADIUM.

November 2, 1997

Owing to a scheduling conflict with musical group U2 playing a rock concert at OLYMPIC STADIUM, the Alouettes must play their home playoff game at Percival MOLSON STADIUM at McGill University. A crowd of 16,252 spectators see the Alouettes defeat the B.C. Lions 45-35.

June, 1998

After the success of the playoff game at MOLSON STADIUM, the Alouettes officially make it their permanent home.

November 26, 2000

The Alouettes play in the Grey Cup for the first time since 1979, losing 28-26 to BC Lions.

November 22, 2001

Don Matthews, the winningest coach in the history of the CFL, is named Alouettes' Head Coach.

November 25, 2001

A crowd of 65,255 fans attend the Grey Cup game at OLYMPIC STADIUM, which crowns the return of the football fever in Quebec.

February 28, 2002

Ellis T. (Skip) Prince is named President and Chief Executive Officer of the Montreal Alouettes.

November 17, 2002

An Eastern Division Finals record crowd of 57,125 Alouettes fans witness the Alouettes defeat of the Toronto Argonauts in the comfort of OLYMPIC STADIUM during a Montreal snowstorm.

November 24, 2002

The Alouettes win their first Grey Cup since their return to the CFL when they defeat the Edmonton Eskimos 25-16 in Edmonton in front of 62,531 fans.
