Roughriders 23 @ Edmonton Eskimos 30
| EDMONTON,
Alberta (Ticker) -- The Saskatchewan Roughriders wasted a chance to play
for the CFL title in front of their hometown fans.
Ricky Ray threw for one touchdown and ran for another and Mike Pringle scored twice as the Edmonton Eskimos advanced to the Grey Cup with a 30-23 victory over the Roughriders. Saskatchewan had a chance to play for the championship at home but lost to Edmonton, which will face the Montreal Alouettes in the Grey Cup next week. The Alouettes defeated the Eskimos in last year's title game. Ray threw an eight-year touchdown pass to Troy Mills early in the second quarter as Edmonton jumped out to a 9-0 lead. Saskatchewan responded with a pair of singled, but Pringle had two two-yard touchdown runs in the third quarter for a 23-2 cushion. Pringle finished with 125 yards and 19 carries and Ray ran seven times for 47 yards, including a nine-yard TD run early in the fourth. Saskatchewan scored three touchdowns in the final seven minutes to make it close, including two from fullback Chris Szarka. Szarka had a one-yard TD run following an onside kick with 80 seconds left, but the Roughriders' comeback stalled after they failed to recover a second onside kick. Saskatchewan's Kevin Glenn completed 16-of-23 passes for 108 yards. His favorite target was Matt Dominguez, who caught nine passes for 120 yards. |
