Ron Estay was the team's defensive captain from 1973 to
1976 and excelled in this position. Among his many contributions to
the team, Estay tied the CFL record in 1974
with the most sacks in a game with five. As team-mate Tom Wilkinson
says, “Estay played an
integral role on the defensive line that helped lead the Edmonton Eskimo’s
to win five Grey Cups in a row”. Estay
was a two time CFL All-Star in 1977 and 1980 and
Western All-Star four times in 1973, 1977, 1978 and 1980. He played
in nine Grey Cup championships and was on the winning end six times.
