St. Joseph's Home for Boys

Guest House

Port-au-Prince, Haiti

If you want to experience Haitian reality while at the same time support a program for former homeless, street children, St. Joseph's Home for Boys is the place to stay.

Situated right off Delmas 91, on the Petionville line, St. Joseph's Home for Boys is just 20 minutes from the airport.  Located in a residential neighborhood, this seven-story home is tastefully furnished with tile floors and brightly colored walls covered with Haitian art.  Rooms include not only sleeping areas, but also indoor and outdoor lounge areas, meeting areas, a spacious dining area, and a breezy rooftop terrace - complete with rattan furniture, potted plants, wind chimes and mountain views.  One floor features an open-air chapel that is available for reflection and meditation.  The guests at St. Joseph's come from all over the world, and the breakfast and dinner conversations are lively, informative, and sometimes inspirational.  The dining room has become a place to make new friends, learn new things, and expand your spiritual lives.

Accommodations:  Rooms have two bunk beds with a bureau, desk and fan.  There is one suite for couples with a private bath.  Tiled bathrooms are clean and spacious, with indoor plumbing fixtures.  Most of the surrounding neighborhood doesn't have access to running water, therefore this house chooses to keep in solidarity with the poor and use water in a simple and conservative way.   Each of the five bathrooms has a reservoir of water for guests to draw from for bathing and flushing.  Solar panels make electricity available, even when the city service is disrupted.  The house has a capacity of 36 guests.

COSTS & SERVICES:  The guest rate is $25 per day, including breakfast and dinner.  Group rates are available.  Food is Haitian/American style, vegetarian meals are provided upon request.  Services available include:  bottled drinking water; laundry service, three times a week; money exchange service on the premises; phone.  Security is provided 24 hours a day with a room available to lock up valuables, passports, airplane tickets, etc. We are also willing to facilitate hiring transportation.  Services provided at additional cost include hiring guides, translators, Creole language lessons, and airport pickup and return.
