The colony was independent from 1865 to 1869 when it was anexed by the Argentinian State expanding south towards Tierra del Fuego. Nowadays Y Waldfa has no admistrative nor political boundaries and the term is loosely used to described the aerea where the Welsh first settled and where most of its Welsh-speaking descendants live. As its got no real entity of its own, Y Wladfa, has no national flag nor coat of arms, using the ones of the different Chubutian Municipalities over which extends. The flag and the arms showned here are two proposals design by Xon Delacampa: Y Wladfa's Flag: This flag is based on the Draig Goch flag of Wales. The only variation is the introducction of Argetina's flag light blue. Y Wladfa's Arms: Shows a the Red Welsh Dragon rampant carring a banner with Argentina's May Sun. As a crest a ship representing The Mimosa (that of the first settlers) with Wales' patron Saint David's flag flying from its masts. As motto: "Y Ddraig Goch Ddyry Cychwyn" (The Red Dragon Will Lead The Way) |
