Here he comes, here comes Speed Racer
He's a demon on wheels
He's a demon and he's gonna be chasing after someone
He's gaining on you so you better look alive
He's busy revving up the powerful Mach Five
And when the odds are against him and there's dangerous work to do
You bet your life Speed Racer's gonna see it through
Go Speed Racer!
Go Speed Racer!
Go Speed Racer go!
He's off and flying as he guns the car around the track
He's jamming down the pedal like he's never coming back
Adventure's waiting just ahead!
Go Speed Racer!
Go Speed Racer!
Go Speed Racer go!

Speed Racer premiered in the U.S. in 1967, and was exposed to a new generation of viewers on MTV in 1993, and then moved to it's new home on Cartoon Network. Unfortunately it's not airing anymore. The show is based on the Japanese comic book Mach Go Go. In the series, Speed's given name was Go Mifune, in homage to Japanese film star Toshiro Mifune. His name, Americanized, became Speed Racer. His adventures centered around his powerful Mach 5 car, his girlfriend Trixie, his little brother Spridle with pet monkey Chim Chim, and his mysterious older brother, Racer X - real name, Rex Racer. For American consumption, many acts of violence and death were deleted and, most importantly, the memorable theme song was added. It was the very first Anime to come to America. Due to that, the animation isn't very good, but the content is great... I guess... The characters have great personalities that you can probably relate to.
Along with the unforgettable theme song, the car itself -- The Mach Five -- is the main part of the show along with it's owner, Speed Racer. This car was built by Speed and his father and has very special features which are controlled with buttons on the steering wheel. Click here to learn a little more about this car.
With adventures that'll keep you on your toes, no wonder it was a huge hit in the 60s. Action, adventure and a little romance here and there, it's a must see series. Unfortunately Speed Racer has been taken off the air and there isn't much talk or many web sites on Speed Racer. And now there's a new Speed Racer for the 90s... But the characters look way different and it doesn't quite look like Anime anymore.
