Kingsborough Community College - Department of Behavioral Sciences
and Human Services |
Interested in a career as a Mental Health professional or as a
Substance Abuse Counselor or both? You can now combine those
interests and receive an Associate in Sciences degree from
Kingsborough Community College.
The Department of Behavioral Sciences and Human Services is offering a
CONCENTRATION in Substance Abuse Counseling within the Mental Health
major. As a result of this innovative program, field placements, for
which students also receive college credit, are available in local
addiction treatment agencies.
Individuals receiving this degree have expanded career options in both
fields and there is a tremendous need to fill positions serving these
populations. In addition to the new program, students interested in
Mental Health or Substance Abuse Counseling may study these areas
separately. The A.S. in Mental Health at Kingsborough is a two year
program; credits earned may be transferred to another CUNY four year
college. The Substance Abuse Counseling program offers a certificate
of 225 CASAC hours along with 300 hour internship and is approved by
the NYS Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services for a CASAC
Trainee credential. These courses may be taken as a non-degree
student.
Information regarding college admission may be obtained by calling the
Admissions Office at 718-368-4600.
