Key Volunteer Coordinator



What is it?

The Key Volunteer Network first came about in the fall of 1981, initiated to increase combat readiness by providing Marines with the assurance that their families were adequately prepared for unexpected events. By preparing families to deal with stresses imposed by the Marine Corps lifestyle, Marines could devote more energy to their jobs. The Key Volunteer program teaches personal coping skills to Marine spouses and encourages and strengthens peer support.
A Key Volunteer is a helper and a resource to families within their unit.

Goals:

��promoting unity and a sense of family
��developing a support network among families in the unit
��striving to eliminate a need for deployed Marines to return home to take care of family problems
��enhancing communications between the Command and families through meetings, phone calls and newsletters
��providing information and referrals to appropriate helping agencies
��providing emotional support to spouses
