Caleb Churchill

Per Churchill Family in America- "Born in Plympton, April 4, 1757, and lived there until the age of twenty-five years, when, with his father, he removed to Chittenden, Vt. Served in the war of the Revolution, Capt. Thomas Sampson's Company, from Plympton; Col. Theophilus Cotton's Regiment; General Palmers' Brigade, September and October, 1777; thirty-two days on a secret expedition to Newport, R.I. Also in Captain Curtis's Company Oct. 13 to Dec 1, 1779, at Rhode Island. Enlisted March 14, 1781, and served in Rhode Island, Three days; discharged March 17, 1781; roll dated at Plympton. His father's family was the third settling in the the town [Chittenden, VT], which was then called Philadephia, Vt. He was a respected citizen, with large influence for good in the town and community; a member of the Congregational Church in Pittsford, Vt., from 1817 to the close of his life. His mind remained clear and his memory good to the last. He died Sept. 15, 1856, aged 99 years 5 month and 11 days."

Served in the Revolutionary War including C apt. Sampson's Company fromPlymouth, Col. Cotton's Regiment, Gen. Palmer's Brigade in addition to a secret expedition against Newport, Rhode Island that took 32 days. Sometime thereafter, he also joined Rhode Island's militia. He was discharged in 1781 at Plympton.

Moved to Rutland County, Vermont along with his father between 1782-1785 as the 3rd family in Chittenden, VT (then called Philladelphia).

Caleb served in the Revolutionary War--in Capt. Sampson's Company from Plymouth, Col. Cotton 's Regiment, Gen. Palmer's Brigade.

Per Gazetteer and Business Directory of Rutland County, VT.; 1881-82, Compiled and Published by Hamilton Child; Syracuse, N.Y.; Printed at the Journal Office August 1881, Part Two, Pages 109 - 114: Caleb CHURCHILL died a few years ago, aged 99 years, 5 months and 11 days. He was one of the early settlers in the northern part of the town, that portion formerly included in Philadelphia. He located upon the farm now owned by Patrick MULLIN.
